Asuka

The way Asuka lost the SmackDown Women’s Championship left a sour taste in many fans’ mouths, and when Becky Lynch walks around with two titles, we have to remind ourselves that it came at the expense of Asuka losing her SmackDown Women’s Championship reign.

After Asuka won the title in the main event of TLC and submitted Becky, who won the Rumble later that night, in January to retain the championship, WWE fans were hoping for a long reign from the Empress of Tomorrow. Instead, WWE rarely showcased her, and many episodes of SmackDown Live were spent without so much of a glimpse at the champion.

Hopefully WWE rectifies this in the near future. Asuka should be seething after being blindsided into a title defense against Charlotte Flair, who broke her undefeated streak at WrestleMania 34 and seems to have her number in big matches. Charlotte vs. Asuka III is one to watch for the future, but, in the meantime, Asuka could gun for a second title reign via the Money in the Bank briefcase.

Though Asuka is a living legend who doesn’t need to cash in the briefcase, a win at WWE Money in the Bank 2019 would give the first Women’s Rumble winner an important accolade to add to her long list of well-earned accomplishments. Seeing Asuka with the briefcase would be compelling television, too, because she’d inspire fear in the hearts of the champion(s), whether it’s just “Becky Two Belts” or Becky and someone else.
