WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Match: The IIconics (c) vs. Kairi Sane & Asuka

The injury to Nia Jax may have thrown a bit of a wrench in the plans for the Women’s Tag Team Championships. Jax and Tamina had been built up as a formidable challenge for any team holding the gold. But if the Irresistible Force is going to be out of action for the rest of 2019 or longer, things will need to change.

The Superstar Shake-up could also change things up, but since these titles are able to be defended on all WWE brands, it stands to reason that a team that gets broken up could still unite to challenge for the championships. So, say, Sasha and Bayley end up on different brands, theoretically they can still become WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions again.

So how could the Superstar Shake-up change things? Kairi Sane could be on her way up to the main roster, but there’s been no word on whether her Sky Pirate teammate Io Shirai will follow. While a team made of of red and blue superstars may be possible champions, odds are if Io is still in NXT, she’d be out of the running.

But Asuka, who has been done dirty for some time in the booking department, could take advantage of a Four Horsewomen of NXT resurgence and fill in for Io, teaming with Kairi to lay waste to anyone in their paths. And as much as I love the IIconics, Kairi and Asuka could legit shoot murder them without batting an eye.

If Peyton and Billie hold on to the titles until WWE SummerSlam 2019, they’ll be in prime position to move on to something else. Give Kairi and Asuka the chance to dominate until, oh, forever, and once the competing Four Horsewomen factions are fully intact on the main roster, then Asuka can go back to singles competition to hold a singles title away from that feud.
