WWE: The Superstar Shakeup really hurt the Raw Women’s Division
Whew chile. This WWE Superstar Shake-up has been quite… the experience? You get it?
Maybe “experience” might be overselling it a tad bit. It was more of a mess. The whole announcement of the WWE Superstar Shake-up was a mess too because of how they did it.
Now, with me, around the time The Usos lost the Smackdown Live tag team championships…
First of all, I already knew they were headed to Monday Night Raw.
And lastly, I already knew that If The Usos were switching brands, Naomi, the Glow Queen, was right behind them. These folks are pretty ride or die. They tend to stick together which is understandable. So, pretty much everybody saw that coming.
I’m not worried about The Usos. They’re fine on any brand.
But Naomi’s move is what’s troubling to me because Monday Night Raw tends to be a no man’s land when it comes to that women’s division — or a no woman’s land, if you will.
I was worried about how she would be treated, how she would be booked on the red brand. I have a right to be worried. This superstar shake-up didn’t exactly help my worries any.
But, let’s look at the overall list.
SmackDown Live women’s roster:
- Asuka & Kairi Sane (Yes!)
- Bayley (Understandable. Yet, bittersweet)
- Becky Lynch
- Carmella
- Charlotte Flair
- Ember Moon (Completely Understandable!)
- Lana
- Mickie James
- The IIconics — Billie Kay & Peyton Royce
- Sonya Deville & Mandy Rose
- Oh, And Paige — This is her house!
So pretty much all of The Four Horsewomen are on SmackDown Live now?
Oh, wow. Oh, my. OK.
Now let’s look at the current Raw women’s roster list:
- Alexa Bliss
- Alicia Fox
- Dana Brooke
- Naomi!
- Natalya
- Lacey Evans
- Nia Jax
- Ronda Rousey
- Ruby Riott
- Sarah Logan
- Tamina
- Zelina Vega
- And Sasha Banks
So looking at that list, I’m not liking what I’m seeing on the red brand.
It’s probably not as bad as it looks on paper because you have women’s champions that are floating on both brands (Becky Lynch & The IIconics as of now). But, everybody else hasn’t been booked worth anything at all in a very long time minus a few people.
So, Monday Night Raw has some serious work to do from a booking standpoint.
I guess this could be the chance to build some of these women up that might desperately need it. But SmackDown Live is headed to FOX in the fall. So, nine chances out of ten, The SmackDown Live women’s division is going to be a lot more of the focus from that point on.
That’s definitely not good for the women of WWE Raw!
Lord have mercy.
Every woman on Raw that’s not a blonde or Ronda Rousey pretty much needs to pray at this point. They’re going to need all the help they can get!
