WWE NXT features some of the world’s most talented professional wrestlers and the promotion’s next big stars. Who could be in store for a 2019 breakout?

With the likes of Kushida and Shane Strickland on the way, WWE NXT is as loaded as ever, and champions Johnny Gargano, The Velveteen Dream, and Shayna Baszler are already three of the promotion’s best superstars.

NXT always seems to churn out stars, either elevating established incoming talents like Matt Riddle or creating new stars like Bianca Belair, who will surely win the NXT Women’s Championship at some point.

So who could be the next big breakout star on WWE‘s Third Brand? Let’s take a look at five candidates this year as we build towards TakeOver: San Jose after this month’s incredible TakeOver: New York special during WrestleMania Weekend.

Keith Lee

The “Limitless” Keith Lee has feuded with Kassius Ohno and Dominik Dijakovic in NXT, though we haven’t seen him as much due to an injury. Lee is one of the most gifted superstars in all of WWE, both as an in-ring performer and as a promo. Few can command attention like Lee, who speaks warmly and with conviction. In the ring, Lee is special, with his strength, explosiveness, creativity, and jaw-dropping agility making him capable of winning anyone over.

Lee looks like a future NXT Champion, but it would make sense for him to win the North American Championship first. The Velveteen Dream will have no shortage of men vying for his title, and Matt Riddle may not be done with him after losing via roll-up in New York.

But Lee will be in the mix after returning from his injury. He has so much potential, and it will be exciting to see Lee compete in all the dream matches we have for him both in 2019 and 2020.
