With the announcement of a massive fatal 4-way ladder match for the NXT Tag Titles at TakeOver: XXV, we could be in store for another show-stealing match from NXT’s tag division.

If there’s one element of NXT that WWE almost always excels at booking, it’s the tag team division.

There’s a long history of epic tag matches in the brand’s past stretching back years. The kind of tag matches that turned regular teams into stars, and played crucial roles in some of NXT’s most memorable feuds.

When The Revival took on #DIY at NXT TakeOver: Toronto in a 2 out of 3 falls match, the result was a match of the year candidate in 2016 which kicked off one of the brand’s most memorable series of bouts.

In 2017, the ladder match between The Authors of Pain and #DIY was not only an amazing war between two of the company’s best teams, but also led to the creation of one of the most iconic moments in recent WWE history.

The next year, the list of show-stealing matches from The Undisputed Era’s reign as NXT Tag Team Champions seemed to grow by the month. From one of the most underrated matches of 2018 at TakeOver: Chicago II against Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch to a couple of incredible matches against Moustache Mountain, the NXT Tag Titles seemed to perpetually be involved in awe-inspiring matches.

That trend and history of excellence looks like it could continue in 2019 too, especially with the announcement of the fatal 4-way ladder match at TakeOver: XXV for the NXT Tag Team Championships.

Featuring 4 amazing teams, the match looks like it has all the makings of another show-stealer, and then some.

The Undisputed Era, in spite of the recent near storyline break-ups, remains the same premier tag team force they were in 2018. They’ll be reviving their feud against Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch once again in this ladder match, meaning there should be no shortage of hard-hitting strikes in this one.

Going into TakeOver: XXV, those two teams perhaps play second fiddle to The Street Profits however. Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins have a clear connection with fans, due both to their likable personas and increasingly thrilling in-ring abilities. In particular, the height Ford continues to get on his frog splash has to easily make it one of the top 5 aerial maneuvers in WWE today.

That connection with the crowd is the real headliner when talking about The Street Profits though, as it could play a huge role in determining who comes out the ultimate victors in this match.

The Street Profits loss to War Raiders that essentially led to this match was a surprisingly puzzling booking decision from WWE when it comes to the usually exceptional storyline writing of the NXT tag division.

The fact that fans everywhere seemed more than ready for The Street Profits to finally get a well-deserved reign as NXT Tag Team Champions leads me to believe they may be the favorites going into this match, both in the eyes of the viewers and WWE alike.

Let’s not forget The Forgotten Sons though when talking about near misses at championship glory. Wesley Blake and Steve Cutler have received a fairly consistent push in NXT thus far, and they nearly beat Ricochet and Aleister Black in the finals of the Dusty Rhodes Classic to earn a shot at War Raiders.

They can’t be counted out of this match either, meaning we have a legitimately unpredictable bout on our hands at TakeOver: XXV.

Next. Extending Becky Lynch vs. Lacey Evans is the right call. dark

Altogether, that combination of unpredictability, emotional investment, and just straight up unbelievable in-ring action could be what pushes this match into being not just another unforgettable show-stealing bout in NXT’s storied history, but a legitimate platform to launch the winning team into a new stratosphere of popularity and support in WWE as well.
