With Rey Mysterio likely out of the WWE U.S. Title picture for awhile due to a shoulder injury, Samoa Joe’s going to need a new challenger for his new championship.

On a recent episode of WWE Raw, Rey Mysterio relinquished the U.S. Championship to Samoa Joe because of a shoulder injury. It was a unique twist to what’s been a rather inconsistent rivalry so far.

Joe and Mysterio haven’t shown much chemistry in the ring, at least on a grand scale. Both of their pay-per-view matches were arguably the most forgettable bouts on the card.

Combine that with an uneven build of their rivalry through a strange combination of typical heel versus face action mixed with a healthy dose of family drama, and you get a feud that never really felt like it clicked.

Hopefully, Mysterio will be back soon. Maybe he’ll eventually return to avenge the beat downs Joe has doled out, and give their rivalry a real direction. Nevertheless, until then, there’s likely going to be some new U.S. Title challengers.

Here’s 3 potential challengers who would be perfect to take on Joe for his new title.

3. Ricochet

Ricochet has been embroiled in a mini-feud with Cesaro for several weeks now.

While it’s a feud that’s provided WWE fans with some highly entertaining matches, it hasn’t provided Ricochet with a clear direction on the main roster. Although he seems to be on the winning end of this rivalry overall, it won’t matter much if it doesn’t lead to something bigger and better for ‘The One and Only’.

Enter Samoa Joe. Both Joe and Ricochet need an opponent, and a direction, for the upcoming pay-per-view. What better way to provide that then by putting the 2 against each other for the United States Championship?

This can give Ricochet his first major singles feud on the main roster with an incredibly talented superstar who can more than hold his own both in the ring and on the mic.

In return, Joe gets an exciting competitor who will surely be able to provide him a solid, perhaps even spectacular, pay-per-view match to make up for his recent string of disappointing performances.

All in all, it seems like an easy win-win for everyone involved.
