Bray Wyatt has finally come back to WWE and his Firefly Fun House promos are the saving grace of Raw and SmackDown Live. The question is how will the wrestler return to the squared circle? Here’s my take.
Bray Wyatt has always been a creative standout in WWE, with his cult leader character shaking up the NXT and main roster landscape. His cryptic promos and segments were captivating and the use of his Wyatt family brought an interesting element to the promotion’s roster. But WWE’s creative decisions ruined any momentum or credibility his character made.
Now, since April of this year, Wyatt has completely rebranded himself and is dominating the main roster as the single most intriguing aspect of the weekly program’s content; both on Raw and SmackDown Live.
His new take, a demented and eerie version of a Pee-Wee Herman-esque children show’s host, has yet again showcased his creative genius in the wrestling world. These short filmed promos are Wyatt’s attempt to revive his career in the WWE and it appears that he is being allowed free creative range to do this. After his eighth installment of the Firefly Fun House, it seems inevitable that Wyatt will return to the ring.
Here is how I believe the New Face of Creative Freedom should return to the ring:
The Concept of Letting Fate Decide
The last episode of Firefly Fun House focused on a quarrel between Mercy the Buzzard and Ramblin’ Rabbit. Mercy was trying to eat Rabbit again, causing Rabbit to fight back. Wyatt sees this and asks them if he should bring the “Fiend.” The two puppets shiver and Wyatt offers to “let fate decide.”
This encompasses him to put on his “Hurt” and “Heal” gloves on, as if he is choosing between the two. “Heal” wins, letting Ramblin’ Rabbit talk, who goes on to want to reveal terrible things happening at the Fun House. Bray proceeds to kill him and sell his blood as a jam.
After making his re-debut, WWE can avoid oversaturation of the character wrestling by having his matches being predicated on the “Hurt” or “Heal” concept. Regardless of him having a scheduled match, Bray would decide to “let fate decide.”
If fate chooses to “heal,” he doesn’t wrestle this week. Instead, he could cut a variety of promos, which could range from necessary reasons for fighting and using violence to why his supposed opponent should “let him in” in lue of fighting him.
If fate chooses to “hurt,” not only will he wrestle the in-ring opponent, he will punish his victims. His in-ring should be vicious, brutal, and extremely physical. It should hard to watch for the viewer, with arguably a pin fall not even being necessary in his eyes
Bray Wyatt Should Be Undefeated
I know, I know, but it makes the most sense. Let’s look at his last character:
The cult leader, the New Face of Fear, the Eater of Worlds. But what happened to this character? He constantly lost, leading the crowd to stop getting behind him. He should have been a credible villain because of his scary and cryptic promos alone, but those promos only work if he has the wins to back him up.
Moving forward, his character needs to be protected at all costs. He needs to be rewarded for this amazing reinvention and to make this character one of substance.
With his history of losing, the only way to make use of Bray Wyatt is to Let Him In.
He should not lose a match.
His promo work and segments can help him be consistent on shows while not being over worked and overexposed. I would accept maybe making the Fiend similar to the Demon King that Finn Balor is undefeated with, but I think it should go further. Forget Ronda Rousey’s rookie year, forget Goldberg’s streak, forget Taker’s Mania streak.
Let. Bray. Wyatt. Win.
That’s all they have to do. Let this Fiend protect his character, protect his credibility, and protect the fans that invest in him and have in the past.
Any Stable He Makes Should Be Established Through the Firefly Fun House
I know what you are thinking, a stable? With this stuff?
Yes.
The strength of this character reinvention is the TV format of his segments. Look at how his Firefly Fun House segments are done. Can’t you imagine a very special guest on this week’s episode?
Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, Pee-wee’s Playhouse and Sesame Street had guests that came on the show and assisted the host in whatever lesson that episode was focused on. Imagine the disdain of Abby and Mercy for the prospect of Wyatt bringing out a guest? It would be something. But who would be a guest? I have two that come to mind and one seems almost too perfect.
The first is Bo Dallas.
Doesn’t it seem perfect? Think of it: that creepy smile of his, and the desire for everyone to Bo-Lieve. Ugh, it makes me want to see it now! Plus, the clothing choices of Wyatt would work with Dallas (think Miztourage but pulled back). And, let’s be honest, the B-Team is dead.
This could be beneficial, because if Wyatt doesn’t want to wrestle that week, he could send Bo to do his bidding for him. Bo could then have a winning streak of some sorts, and, if/when he suffers a loss, it won’t hurt Wyatt’s credibility.
The second, Nikki Cross.
Let’s face it, this Alexa Bliss stuff is not going to last. Eventually, it will come to a head with Bliss screwing her over or WWE somehow just dropping the whole story.
This would let her have fun again and be more of that chaotic, wild character that won her over in NXT. The benefit for her, just like Wyatt, is that this would make her more focused.
During the Fun House segments, we would see her talking with Bray and then sitting on the floor with the emotionless kids or chatting with one of the puppets.
During her matches, she would go back to be psychotic and crazy, running around and being chaotic. If Bray is ringside with her, he can gesture to her, letting her know to be more focused and not to lose sight of it all.
Final Thoughts
The Firefly Fun House and Bray Wyatt’s creative genius has given me something to look forward to on Raw and SmackDown Live. Every week, I eagerly await to see what new sick and demented idea he pushes between the catching, warmhearted, innocent theme song against the brightly colored set backdrop.
I worried about Bray Wyatt professionally because he was a favorite of mine and I thought his run was over. This reinvention and resurrection has given me reason to have hope. The recent history with WWE’s handle of returns doesn’t give me any reason to be excited, but Bray Wyatt is doing that all on his own.
All we have to do is . . . Let him in . . . See ya! See ya!! (Waves and smiles)
We’re really glad that you’re our friend and this is a friendship that will never ever end.
