WWE Extreme Rules 2019 power rankings: Brock Lesnar made his deposit
By Mark Justice
WWE Extreme Rules 2019 turned out to be WWE’s PPV of the year. The following will rank 10 top notch WWE superstars who impressed the WWE fanbase at the most extreme PPV of the year. It’s time to get out your shades because the star power you are about to witness will be too luminous for your eyes.
From WWE Raw, the following matches occurred at WWE Extreme Rules:
(1) Seth Rollins (c) and Becky Lynch (c) vs. Baron Corbin and Lacey Evans for the Universal and Raw Women’s Championships in a Winners Take All Mixed Tag Team Extreme Rules Match, (2) Ricochet (c) vs. AJ Styles for the United States Championship, (3) The Revival (c) vs. Usos for the Raw Tag Team Championships, (4) Braun Strowman vs. Bobby Lashley in a Last Man Standing Match, and (5) The Undertaker and Roman Reigns vs. Shane McMahon in a No Holds Barred Match.
From WWE SmackDown, the following matches occurred at WWE Extreme Rules:
(1) Kofi Kingston vs. Samoa Joe for the WWE Championship, (2) Daniel Bryan and Rowan (c) vs. The New Day vs. Heavy Machinery in a triple threat match for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships, (3) Aleister Black vs. Cesaro, (4) Bayley (c) vs. Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross in a 2-on-1 Handicap Match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship, (5) Finn Balor vs. Shinsuke Nakamura for the Intercontinental Championship, and (6) Kevin Owens vs. Dolph Ziggler.
Finally, from WWE 205 Live, Drew Gulak (c) defended his Cruiserweight Championship against Tony Nese in the kickoff show.
Now that we are aware of what took place on the Extreme Rules 2019 PPV card, let’s delve into the power rankings from the Extreme Rules PPV last Sunday.
Honorable Mention: Shinsuke Nakamura
Shinsuke Nakamura maintains his Extreme Rules winning streak. Last year, he dethroned Jeff Hardy to become the United States Champion. This year, he dethroned Finn Balor to become the Intercontinental Champion.
Due to how Nakamura has been booked throughout 2019, it was very hard to believe that he would earn any more championships on the main roster. Even Nakamura likely felt forgotten and disrespected by the way he was booked.
Rest assured, the WWE Universe clearly did not forget about him because they continue to adore him for the amazing things he does in that ring, just like what he did with Finn Balor at Extreme Rules.
However, he shouldn’t get too comfortable because Balor may not be finished with Nakamura just yet. Balor could easily unleash the demon at SummerSlam, a PPV where Balor has a winning streak, and win the IC Championship back from Nakamura.
Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see how Nakamura’s foreseeable transient Intercontinental Championship reign turns out to be in the weeks leading up to SummerSlam.
Honorable Mention: Drew Gulak
Drew Gulak retained the Cruiserweight Championship against Tony Nese, proving that his title win at Stomping Grounds last month was not a fluke. He can now take over the cruiserweight division, get Nese out of his hair, and look forward to new challengers in August.
However, since the roster is quite negligible to say the least, it wouldn’t be surprising if these two superstars have a championship rematch at the SummerSlam Kickoff Show.
