WWE SummerSlam 2019: Ember Moon vs. Bayley is the perfect pick
One night after Natalya became the No. 1 contender to Becky Lynch’s Raw Women’s Championship, the SmackDown Women’s Title match at WWE SummerSlam 2019 was seemingly decided.
All it took for Bayley to announce her SmackDown Women’s Championship opponent at WWE SummerSlam 2019 was a promo after a tag match.
Ember Moon needed to find a teammate to face the elite tag team of Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose, and, much to Fire and Desire’s shock, she found the best possible woman on the SmackDown roster to help her out.
She and Bayley picked up a quick win over Rose and Deville, and, after the match, Bayley sung Moon’s praises while singling her out for a future title match. Moon, of course, was quick to accept this opportunity.
Wrestling fans couldn’t have been more pleased to hear that Moon vs. Bayley will be the SmackDown Women’s Title match, especially since many of us assumed Charlotte Flair would face Bayley in a rivalry renewal for SummerSlam. Charlotte made her return to television on this episode of SmackDown, sucking up to Shane McMahon, drawing massive heat, and putting together a short-but-sweet victory over rising star Liv Morgan.
While Charlotte vs. Bayley would have been a great match, Moon vs. Bayley is far more interesting. Bayley and Moon have both shined over SummerSlam weekend in the past at TakeOver Specials, but this is both of their first title matches at SummerSlam. In fact, this is Moon’s first title match in WWE, period.
It couldn’t have come at a better time, too. Moon has quietly picked up more momentum lately, and she looks like one of the most dangerous competitors inside the ring. She’s practically invincible and there will be plenty of drama surrounding The Eclipse. Will she hit it? If she does, can Bayley find a way to avoid losing her title to the up-and-coming Superstar?
Moon vs. Bayley is a big enough match for the SummerSlam venue and Moon is capable of putting together a Match of the Year candidate against The Hugger. Yes, that’s how good both of these wrestlers are. Moon is a damn genius inside of the ring, while Bayley is in the midst of an incredible run with the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
Although Moon will be a serious underdog here, WWE fans should have every reason to believe that she will push Bayley to the limit. Beating Bayley before SmackDown moves to FOX seems less likely, but it would be presumptuous to count out Moon. The fans are just itching to get behind her and this is a dueling-chants babyface vs. babyface type of match that could be one for the ages in Toronto.
