WWE: Cedric Alexander had a star-making performance to close Raw
By Brett Grega
Cedric Alexander’s impressive performance is the real WWE storyline we should be talking about coming out of Monday Night Raw.
Between Gallows and Anderson capturing the tag team titles, a surprising 24/7 Championship angle, and a potentially hypocritical violent assault from Brock Lesnar, there’s no question that we saw a wild episode of WWE Raw.
In the midst of all of those attention-grabbing storylines, there was one angle that clearly stood above the rest in my eyes however.
Cedric Alexander put on an impressive show to close Raw, one that should clearly cement his status as one of the company’s biggest rising stars going forward.
Alexander not only saved one of the de facto faces of WWE from a vicious assault, but followed it up by leaping off of the TitanTron in an incredible moment that’s sure to be shown for weeks to come. Then, if that somehow wasn’t enough, Alexander hit the ring again to eventually lay out practically half of the company’s top heels with one of his signature dives.
Forget any buzz-worthy contradictions the Seth Rollins segment may have presented, or even Maria Kannellis’ surprise reign as 24/7 Champion for a second, and just think about that segment.
That was the kind of performance that should lead people to call Cedric Alexander a future Universal Champion in the making. Considering the caliber of the talent he was working, it was simply that impressive.
Don’t let the conversations surrounding those other segments fool you. The real headline coming out of Raw here is that we could have easily just seen the moment we point to months from now as the time when Cedric Alexander became more than just a gifted former cruiserweight champion.
With a major match against Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam seemingly on the horizon, Alexander could quickly rocket up the ranks if he can string together more performances like that. It may not be long at all until we’re talking about Alexander going up against another top star like AJ Styles or Shinsuke Nakamura for one of WWE’s mid-card titles.
Even though Alexander has had big performances already in his career, he’s a 2-time champion who already headlined Raw with Roman Reigns once after all, this last segment just felt like the start of something even bigger.
It felt like it could be the start of a potentially special run for Cedric Alexander in WWE.
