Although the Roman Reigns mystery attacker angle certainly has its faults, it seems like it could be a boon for both Reigns and WWE in the end.

Say what you want, but this new mystery attacker storyline could do wonders for Roman Reigns on WWE SmackDown.

Yes, I know there’s some nitpicking that could be done about the execution, especially the initial forklift segment. On a side note, I personally don’t see much of a difference between this angle, and the Aleister Black attacker angle from NXT a little while back myself, but I digress.

No matter how you feel about WWE’s execution, you have to admit that Roman Reigns came across looking like the absolute butt-kicking, take no prisoners superstar he should have been on SmackDown this week.

In dispatching Buddy Murphy like some sort of bad “Fast and Furious” henchman, Roman Reigns showed off just how dangerous he can be when you tick him off. It’s a side of Reigns that we all know is there, but rarely seem to get to see presented in such a matter-of-fact, straightforward style.

It was legitimately refreshing to see WWE able to present both Reigns’ no-nonsense side, as well as the real range on the mic that he’s slowly developed over the years. That’s a level of nuance that seems simple on the surface, but that we all know the company has struggled to deliver for Reigns and others like him in the past.

As long as WWE has Roman Reigns continue on this warpath while still retaining his solidly face character though, they should have gold on their hands this time.

This is the perfect storyline to propel Reigns back into the title conversation if WWE wants to go that direction, or to just continue him down a road that leads to a major match against someone like Daniel Bryan, Triple H, or whoever is ultimately revealed to be the mastermind behind these attacks.

The story simply captures the totality of his character perfectly, and should see him become one of the most talked about superstars in the company once again after his somewhat uneven rivalry with Shane McMahon.

If along the way this whole angle leads to some actual high-profile matches for woefully underutilized superstars like Murphy and Rowan too, then that’s just icing on the cake.

Basically, that means that although you can easily find ways to needle this storyline’s faults if you want, there’s certainly reason to believe that it could lead to some legitimately great results for everyone involved too.
