Buddy Murphy is getting another chance for a breakout WWE main roster match on Tuesday, and it comes against former champion, Daniel Bryan.

Last Tuesday, Buddy Murphy and Roman Reigns put on one of the most talked about WWE matches of the year.

It was the opportunity that many of Murphy’s loudest fans called for ever since he was added to SmackDown Live. Even though he was booked to lose the match, WWE is speaking of Murphy and promoting him in a way that its clear they are trying to push fans to care about him as a character.

This coming Tuesday he gets another former champion as he’s facing Daniel Bryan in an instantly anticipated match. This is an opportunity to continue to build Murphy, while furthering a storyline which is an area where WWE Creative has struggled in recent years.

Looking over at WWE.com, the story is being presented that Murphy is looking to “restore his name,” and “get a measure of retaliation” against Bryan and Rowan. The two jumped him in the locker room after the match with Reigns, and continued the angle around whoever is looking to injure the former Shield member.

We can only speculate on the outcome of this eventual match and the impact that it will have on Murphy, but it’s clear that this is an opportunity to standout with one of the best wrestlers in the industry today.

Bryan is the perfect wrestler to help any emerging talent break through with the crowd. Bryan’s run within the WWE is completely dedicated to the idea that he was attempting to smash the proverbial glass ceiling that was placed on him for whatever reasons lived in Vince McMahon’s mind.

As a former cruiserweight champion, Murphy has similar struggles ahead of him if he’s going to become an individual of value on this stacked WWE roster.

WWE is taking the right steps to make this a standout moment for Murphy. Recent weeks have shown that more time on Monday Night Raw and SD Live is being dedicated to quality matches. Drew McIntyre and Cedric Alexander from Raw on Monday is yet another example.

Murphy versus Bryan has the potential to top both that match and Murphy’s previous affair with Reigns. It’s easy to see that fans enjoyed this match as it has nearly 3 million views on YouTube.

However, one must hope that they are given the time needed to tell the story in the ring that they can tell.

At SummerSlam, Murphy was in a match with Apollo Crews that was getting off to a great start before Rowan ran in and started the beat down. That can’t be the case for this coming Tuesday, because it will halt any of Murphy’s growing momentum and make him look like a minor character on the show.

From a stylistic standpoint, Murphy and Bryan should deliver up to our dreams. They can match each other from a pacing standpoint, while allowing Murphy to play up the strength and power advantage he will have.

We’ve seen this type of in ring story told in the past in the matches that he had against Ali. The same could go over here with Murphy playing the in-between character to Bryan and Rowan’s heel practices.

It’s very hard to see a situation in which Murphy gets a clean victory over Bryan. Mustafa Ali was given a surprise win over the former American Dragon which was supposed to kick off a major run for him, but injuries brought that to a screeching halt.

However, he could get the win if Reigns gets involved; which helps elevate Murphy while keeping the story between Bryan and Reigns going. This shouldn’t lead to Murphy being anyone’s sidekick, but his stature on the show only benefits from being involved in an angle with two main event standouts like Bryan and Reigns.

As SmackDown Live continues to move in a new direction in the face of new challenges and networks, it’s interesting to watch the change in content on television week in and week out.

The upcoming match between Murphy and Bryan is a continuance of that trend. And if these past few weeks are any indication, we should all sit back and enjoy the treat that these two men can give us from bell to bell.
