Braun Strowman and Seth Rollins’ win proves that sometimes WWE doesn’t have to reinvent the wheel to make a fun, entertaining, and engaging storyline

I don’t think anyone was really going into Monday Night Raw this week expecting Braun Strowman and Seth Rollins to walk out as new WWE Raw Tag Team Champions, yet that’s exactly what happen.

Nevertheless, despite the unexpected twist to get there, Rollins and Strowman’s win was built in a clean and logical manner that really highlighted the power of simple storytelling.

Earlier in the show, Rollins saved Strowman from a beat down at the hands of The OC, much in the same way that Strowman saved him the week prior. This led to a mutual sign of respect from the two, and an admission from Rollins that he felt Strowman deserved a shot at the Universal Championship.

The only problem standing in the way of making that Universal Championship match a reality was the still lingering presence of AJ Styles and The OC. Therefore, Rollins got them the tag title shot against Gallows and Anderson, leading to that surprise victory closing out the show.

The entire affair wound up being far from the innovative storytelling we’ve seen from Bray Wyatt lately, or even the emotional roller-coaster that Kofi Kingston is frequently able to take us on, but it was arguably just as enjoyable.

Everything besides the actual title match itself and subsequent victory was fairly predictable going into Raw, but the crowd seemed fully invested in the entire angle throughout the night, and the actual surprise win itself got a massive pop.

At the same time, both Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman looked incredibly strong, and an entertaining continuation of the feud between the two is now beyond easy to map out.

It’s pretty obvious that the tension between Strowman and Rollins will eventually reach an untenable pitch that leads to Anderson and Gallows taking their titles back in a must-see rematch similar to their standout Raw main event.

That should go a long way to restoring any of the luster that may have been lost from The OC due to their unexpected defeat.

In turn, that loss will also inevitably lead to the growing feud between the Universal Champion and “Monster Among Men” to reach a fever pitch, as both men blame the other for the loss. It’s a ridiculously easy way to keep both superstars as obvious faces, while still building a rivalry that’s worthy of a spot at the top of the card.

At the end of the day, it’s a story that’s ultimately not going to take anyone by surprise, yet it’s clear that it gets both WWE and its fans what they likely want.

An entertaining Universal Championship picture which continues to help people forget about the drawn out Brock Lesnar storyline, and a way to keep everyone involved looking as strong as possible throughout.
