WWE: 3 scenarios to bring the Authors of Pain back to TV
The Authors Of Pain consist of Akam and Rezar. They have been on WWE television since their NXT debut in 2016.
It can be argued that since they debuted on RAW in April of 2018, they have struggled to achieve the level of success that matches their potential. The duo returned to WWE television after being off television for 6 months due to Akam having undergone knee surgery. They reappeared at the 2019 Super Showdown in the 51 Man Battle Royal, but were eliminated. They have yet to be shown on WWE television in any meaningful matter.
The Authors of Pain have been rumored to be coming back to WWE television soon. This article will review 3 ways to reintroduce a potentially dominant and physically imposing tag team.
Mercenaries for Hire
Intimidating should be the first word that comes to mind when fans see The Authors of Pain. Akam and Rezar excel in short physical beatdowns where they can use their brute strength to dominate opponents. With the WWE current roster of lower card heels, The Authors of Pain could be excellent in the role of mercenaries for hire by a heel wrestler.
A wrestler EC3, who is the definition of cowardly heel, could hire The Authors of Pain to do his “dirty work” in the ring. This is a great way to bring to light what The Authors of Pain do well, dominate opponents. This also brings a louder negative crowd reaction for whichever wrestler The Authors of Pain assist.
Everyone hates a bully that hides behind two bigger men to fight their battles. Akam and Rezar have yet to show the ability to put together a promo to enhance their characters. Being mercenaries for hire for a wrestler that can cut a solid in ring promo, will bring the best out of both parties.
Pre Match Dominators
Akam is 6’3 290lbs and Rezar is 6’4 330lbs. These two men are as physically imposing as anyone on the current roster. A creative way to reintroduce The Authors of Pain to WWE television is to put them in matches that spotlight what their talents.
A tag team match on RAW between The Ascension vs Ryder and Hawkins. Before the match starts, The Authors of Pain’s music hits and the two giants appear at the top of the ramp. They walk down to the ring make short work of Ryder and Hawkins.
They turn their eyes to The Ascension and a stare down ensues. All The Authors of Pain need to do next is shake their heads and leave the ring. This creates mystery to what happens when The Authors of Pain and The Ascension meet next week on RAW.
This needs to be a central theme with The Authors of Pain, when their music hits, the fans need to know that domination is right around the corner. A match between The Ascension should be a short match where The Authors of Pain do not sell any offense and physically dominate The Ascension.
Four Bulls in One Ring
One thing that has always set WWE apart from other wrestling companies are video packages. A great example of this is the “02/21/11” video promo hyping possibility of what would happen on the Monday Night RAW on February 21st, 2011. It was a slow build way to reintroduce The Undertaker. This is an effective way to reintroduce The Authors of Pain.
The Viking Raiders have been the successful “hoss” tag team in recent WWE. The Authors of Pain are another “hoss” tag team. After every win that The Viking Raiders have, there can be promo package leading to the return of The Authors of Pain it will show the fans that this is going to be a match that is coming soon.
After a win by The Viking Raiders, finally the lights go out in the ring. The Authors of Pain surround the ring. Instead of that being the explosion of the four bulls, wait another week. At Hell in a Cell, The Viking Raiders collide with The Authors of Pain to determine the biggest tag team in WWE.
