5 of the greatest stables in WWE history
The Shield
Members: Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose, and Seth Rollins
If one wrestler from a stable becomes a main-eventer, it can be considered an important stable in WWE history. For The Shield, all three members have became main-eventers. In fact, all three men in The Shield have held the WWE Championship.
The Shield was formed at the 2012 Survivor Series when all three men interrupted the match between CM Punk vs John Cena vs Ryback. Their impact was tremendous.
Their promos were fresh and creative, as they would seemingly talk into a handheld camera in the backstage area. They were immediately viewed as top guys in WWE by being in the ring with legends like The Undertaker, The Rock, and Randy Orton.
The group began to fall apart in May 2014 as Seth Rollins would turn on Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns to align forces with HHH. This breakup was the genesis that all three members needed to catapult to the top of the WWE.
Roman Reigns was the first member of The Shield to be positioned at the top of WWE. Reigns won the 2015 Royal Rumble which ensured him a chance to face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 31.
The match would end in memorable fashion as Seth Rollins would cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase to win the WWE Heavyweight Championship. Rollins became the first member of The Shield to hold the top prize in WWE.
One of the characteristics that made The Shield special was their chemistry. It did not seem forced. The brotherhood that The Shield spoke consistently of felt real, because it was real. In WWE, wrestlers are paired together on a whim and fans can see right through an attempt to force chemistry.
The Shield reunited earlier in 2019 in a storyline that captivated fans. It was apparent that The Shield was a beloved entity where each member was strong on their own. The Shield, as a group, was something the fans still loved to see.
Seth Rollins is currently the WWE Universal Heavyweight Champion. Roman Reigns is one of the top performers in WWE and is a multi time WrestleMania main eventer. Dean Ambrose left WWE in 2019 In a move that was the most talked about career change for a pro wrestler in 2019.
All three members of The Shield have had a tremendous impact in WWE. Their story has not been finalized in pro wrestling, but their impact has changed pro wrestling for the better.
