Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman (c) vs. Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler [Raw Tag Team Championships]
The New York Yankees! The Los Angeles Lakers! The New England Patriots! These are the names of legitimate teams who have become dynasties due to their long-term superior dominance and remarkable chemistry in their respective sports of baseball, basketball, and American football.
As for the WWE, there are two illegitimate tag teams fighting for the Raw Tag Team Championships. Again, this merely exemplifies the lack of care for the tag team division in the WWE.
Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman formed a tag team a month ago because they kept saving each other from O.C. ambushes and later won the Raw Tag Team Championships from the O.C. on the same night they formed. Meanwhile, Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler formed a tag team two weeks ago because they saw “twinkles” in each other’s eyes and later defeated seven other legitimate tag teams in a tag turmoil match to become the number one contenders for the Raw Tag Team Championships on the same night they formed.
This type of booking is insulting to all of the legitimate tag teams who have fought together for years, training together for hours on end to perfect their craft in tag team wrestling. Undoubtedly, it’s a spit in the face, and neither team should win this championship match.
However, one team must win and Roode and Ziggler seem to have better chances of becoming the new Raw Tag Team Champions. With Rollins and Strowman scheduled for a Universal Championship match in the main event, it’s unlikely that they will coexist at all to keep the championships.
Prediction: Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler
Seth Rollins (c) vs. Braun Strowman [WWE Universal Championship]
Seth Rollins won the Universal Championship back from Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam, thereby slaying the beast twice this year. Now, his next opponent is a monster: Braun Strowman.
Braun Strowman earned a title opportunity against Seth Rollins by taking a gander at the championship. This is where the problem starts, and it should not sit well with any WWE fan who watches the longest episodic television show in history on a weekly basis.
The Universal Championship is a main card championship that has main evented plenty PPVs throughout the calendar year. Why is an opportunity at this championship earned by gazing at the championship?
On top of that, Strowman who is supposedly the #1 contender to the Universal Championship could not even defeat United States Champion AJ Styles to win a mid-card championship. If Strowman can’t win a mid-card championship, why should he be in a match for a main card championship?
Ugh, this storyline was terribly orchestrated and is as bland as those chicken nuggets from McDonald’s. At this point, this championship should be canceled and replaced by the King of the Finals between Chad Gable and Baron Corbin, which was unceremoniously moved to the Raw after Clash of Champions.
This year, Rollins and Strowman were literally the last two superstars in the Royal Rumble, the same PPV where Strowman was stripped of his Universal Championship opportunity against Brock Lesnar and was replaced by Finn Balor. Why couldn’t Strowman use that as a reason to get a championship opportunity?
It’s beyond common logical reasoning as to why the main event of this PPV was booked in such an egregious manner. Since Strowman didn’t have a legitimate reason to be a challenger for the Universal Championship, he should not win this match.
It’s deplorable that Strowman could end up losing both title matches in one night, but the way he was booked for this PPV was downright bizarre. As a result, there’s no reason for Rollins to lose the championship, so he should just slay the monster and move on to lose the championship to the more interesting Bray Wyatt at October’s Hell in a Cell.
Prediction: Seth Rollins
