Impact Wrestling to join NJPW and WOW on AXS TV
In some breaking news, it has now been announced that Impact Wrestling will be moving over to AXS TV, which currently houses both NJPW and WOW.
It is no secret that Impact Wrestling has had a difficult time finding accessible distribution for its television programming as of late. Impact had a good deal with Spike TV (now the Paramount Network) some years back, but lost it five years ago, in short, because Vince Russo exists. Things went downhill from there. They moved to Destination America, then to POP TV. Both networks which few homes in North America either have or know they have.
Things hit rock bottom when they moved to an even more inaccessible network in the Pursuit Channel, which is only available for television viewers with DirecTV, Dish, AT&T, or Verizon FIOS. Thankfully, a new light has shined on them in the form of AXS TV.
It was the other day that we learned that Anthem, the company which owns Anthem, had bought a majority stake in AXS TV. In doing so, we all immediately suspected that Impact will be making the big move to AXS and today, Impact confirmed it in a statement released on Twitter. In said statement, Impact confirmed that the first Impact on AXS TV episode will air following their Bound for Glory Pay-Per-View, which emanates from Chicago on Oct. 20.
In addition, for those who may not have AXS TV, all Impact episodes will continue to be simulcast on Twitch as they have been ever since moving to Pursuit. The move to AXS TV places them on the same wrestling block that airs both New Japan Pro Wrestling and WOW – Women of Wrestling.
This is the biggest network that Impact has been on since their Spike days and the biggest network switch they’ve had since first trading Fox Sports Net for Spike in 2005. AXS TV is carried by Xfinity (fka Comcast), AT&T U-verse, Dish, DirecTV, Verizon FiOS, Charter and a handful of other local channel distribution stations.
This is a big win for Impact. In fact, as underdogs in their own right, it’s the biggest win they’ve had in a while. Furthermore, this is a win for wrestling fans who enjoy the rest of the wrestling content that AXS provides. Cheers to Impact and we hope the move pays off in dividends for them going forward.
