Chad Gable and Baron Corbin will be competing in the final match of the 2019 WWE King of the Ring.

The match takes place on WWE RAW on September 16th.  It will be the culmination of a 16 man tournament that has lasted over a month.

Past King of the Ring winners used the victory in order to springboard to a higher level of success. Bret Hart, Steve Austin, Owen Hart, Triple H, Edge, and Brock Lesnar have used winning the tournament to ascend higher in their careers.

Conventional WWE wisdom would lead fans to believe that Baron Corbin will win on Monday.

He is a naturally antagonistic heel. Everything he does in the ring brings out a loud negative reaction from fans. Corbin defeated legendary wrestler Kurt Angle at WrestleMania 35 in Kurt Angle’s final match. Some fans believed Corbin was not deserving of the accolade, an opinion that added to the resentment of the Baron Corbin character.

Chad Gable has experienced a career resurgence since moving to 205 Live. In July, he had an incredible match with Jack Gallagher. The character of Chad Gable has been portrayed as an underdog. Gable’s opening match with Shelton Benjamin was designed around Benjamin mocking Gable’s height. Gable won a great match against Andrade Cien Almas although it was viewed as a fluke. He then advanced to the finals in a victory against Shane McMahon.

Winning the King of the Ring means you have WWE’s stamp of approval. It can be a springboard to further your career. It can also be a crutch to find your character.

With that being said, Chad Gable should be the next King of the Ring.
