With WWE Hell in a Cell on the horizon, who are the best picks to challenge Cruiserweight Champion Drew Gulak for the belt?

WWE Clash of Champions is in the books, and The Gulak Era will continue as Drew Gulak retained his Cruiserweight Championship. He showed his skill by defeating Humberto Carrillo and Lince Dorado, continuing a reign that began at WWE Stomping Grounds.

Since capturing the title, Drew Gulak has successfully defended against Tony Nese, Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, Oney Lorcan, Kushida (at Evolve 134), and most recently Humberto Carrillo and Lince Dorado. Could we see one of those former opponents go after Gulak once again, or will he have an all-new challenger?

Tyler Bate

The first choice I see for Drew Gulak’s next challenger is one who, as far as I can find, has never faced him in singles competition. They’ve shared a ring on a few rare occasions, most notably in Chikara and in a few multi-man battle royals for WWE’s “Worlds Collide” events.

Other than those few glimpses, we’ve never seen what these two technically skilled competitors could do when given the time to truly go at it. Bate is fresh off a hard-fought loss to WWE United Kingdom Champion WALTER at NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff.

We’ve seen Tyler Bate compete on 205 Live a handful of times in the past few years, but that was long before The Gulak Era began. The former WWE UK Champion has only improved, and it would lend some credence to recent comments by Triple H about NXT, NXT UK, and 205 Live existing under the same broad banner.
