Sheamus is a legendary singles and tag team wrestler in WWE and he has been missed over the past several months. Could he be ready to return to the company once the rosters reset?

WWE SmackDown will air on FOX for the first time on Friday, Oct. 4 when it emanates from the classic Staples Center in Los Angeles. With NXT now on the USA Network, SmackDown moving to FOX, and a draft set to take place in October, it truly feels like a new era in WWE.

Now would be the opportune time for a familiar face to make his return. According to the Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer, Sheamus is “ready to return,” as relayed by Fightful.com’s Jeremy Lambert.

Sheamus has not wrestled since participating in a six-man tag team match on the episode of SmackDown Live after WrestleMania 35, where he teamed up with Drew McIntyre and his regular partner Cesaro to take on The New Day. The Celtic Warrior reportedly suffered a concussion during the match.

There were rumblings this summer that Sheamus could be ready to return soon, but WWE are likely playing it safe and waiting for the opportune time to reintroduce the veteran wrestler. While Sheamus likely wants to get back to wrestling as soon as possible, his battle with spinal stenosis, a career-threatening and chronic condition that must be managed, is one key reason why playing it safe with the 41-year-old is wise.

Next. The importance of self-care in wrestling. dark

A four-time World Champion and five-time Tag Team champion with Cesaro as one-half of “The Bar,” Sheamus is one of the most accomplished wrestlers on the WWE roster. He’s also become increasingly well-liked by the fan base, as his tag team work with Cesaro has legitimately been on a legendary level.

It’s great to hear word from Meltzer that Sheamus is close to a return and it would make a ton of sense for him to return during the draft. Fans would pop for him, and they’d probably enjoy watching him return to his role in the loaded tag team division, which could take on great importance in WWE again. Cesaro and Sheamus have truly been a gift to wrestling fans as a tag team.
