Since it’s a day that ends in “y,” there’s a WWE rumor floating around about how Vince McMahon wants to turn The New Day heel. Except now that Xavier Woods is injured and Kofi Kingston is hiding his anger at losing the title, the turn actually has a chance at happening.

The New Day started their careers as a faction of heels, but they were so damn good that WWE fans couldn’t help but love them. They turned babyface as a result of the crowd’s adulation, became one of the greatest tag teams in wrestling history, and continue to write their stories as legends of the industry.

I can’t think of many people who want to turn The New Day heel, especially since they have gained even more praise from wrestling fans in 2019. A large part of that is due to Kofi Kingston’s memorable WWE Championship win at WrestleMania 35. Not only did he become the first African-born wrestler to hold the title, but he also excelled as a champion.

That’s what made it so infuriating to see him lose in literal seconds to Brock Lesnar on the first episode of SmackDown on FOX. It was a slap in the face to Black wrestling fans and to Kofi himself. And it was all for nothing. For a stupid match between Lesnar and Cain Velasquez at the Crown Jewel Pay Per View in Saudi Arabia that nobody really gives a damn about.

Anyway, the loss has left wrestling fans wondering what could be next for Kingston, who has done a brilliant job of acting, as per usual, in the aftermath of the loss. Kingston is pretending to be all positive, acting like the loss hasn’t affected him. But judging by the way he’s crushing pancakes in his hands or the edge in his voice, he’s upset.

WrestlingNews.Co’s Paul Davis reports that the next step could be a heel turn for The New Day, which, admittedly, is much, much better than the OTHER fan theories of them “breaking up”. (That would, of course, be one of the dumbest things ever.)

But The New Day turning heel and getting serious? It’s possible. Xavier Woods’s injury is another layer to consider, since he will be out for a significant amount of time with an Achilles’ issue.

Davis reports that Vince McMahon is “seriously considering” a turn, and he notes that WWE once teased a heel turn from the trio in late 2016. However, they were so over that it was never going to work, so Sheamus and Cesaro remained the villains in the story.

Next. Crown Jewel is hurting WWE's women. dark

Would you like to see The New Day turn heel? Is this the best response from Big E and Kofi as on-screen characters to THAT title loss against Lesnar? I’m not so sure, so I’m open to any and all takes. Personally, I love the Power of Positivity, but maybe it is time for a change.

There is one thing, however, I am sure of: Kofi Kingston needs to get his revenge on Brock Lesnar. He has more than one WWE Title reign in the tank.
