He would defeat El Santo in 1953 to become the NWA World Welterweight champion. He would proceed to hold the title for 5 years! In 1958, he finally dropped the championship to Karloff Lagarde.

In 1961, The Blue Demon would become movie star. He 1st appeared in a few Luchador films as an extra and eventually became the lead role in 25 films from 1964-1979. He would never relinquish his mask during these movies. The films in which he starred in were of the action, horror and science fiction variety.

While he would retire from wrestling in 1988, his biggest film role took place in 1989. He would be featured in a full length documentary aptly titled “Blue Demon, The Champion”. Demon’s mask would ultimately be his claim to fame to go along with his incredible in ring ability. in 2000, The CMLL promotion would introduce a tournament in his remembrance. The winner of the tournament would receive a championship belt and plaque which featured the famous Blue Demon mask on both trophies.

He would pass away in December of 2000 of a heart attack. His son, Blue Demon Jr would carry on the family legacy in Lucha Libre. He won the main event of the 2019 AAA Triplemania event defeating his rival Dr Wagner Jr. While the original Blue Demon has been gone for almost 20 years, his popularity still reigns on to this day.
