Tony Nese versus Angel Garza (#1 contender’s match for the NXT Cruiserweight Title)

After a quick promo from Tommaso Ciampa and his new team, Tony Nese and Angel Garza took the ring for a number one contender’s match.

The match started even, until Nese stopped Garza from doing his signature pants rip. I never thought I would type the phrase signature pants rip by the way, but here we are.

Those pants wound up being rather advantageous for Garza though, as they allowed him to slip out of a sunset-flip powerbomb from Nese and take control of the match.

Garza powered through with some high-flying offense from there, before Nese was able to counter with some high-flying offense of his own.

Nese wound up nailing Garza with a 450 splash, but Garza survived by instinctively placing a foot on the rope.

Garza found the strength to put the match away after that, dropping Nese with a unique powerbomb before hitting him with some wild finisher I’ve honestly never seen anyone else do before.

Result: Angel Garza wins via pinfall

This was yet another impressive match, but honestly I’m getting a bit worn down. They needed like a quick squash match in-between here so I could catch my breath.

After the match, Lio Rush walked on stage only to be met by Garza, who delivered a disrespectful slap to the reigning champ.

Overall, I liked the match, and the upcoming match between Rush and Garza will surely be something to watch. Still, I think this one suffered from the show’s breakneck pacing just a little.

Grade: A-

WWE cut to Rhea Ripley backstage after this one was over. Ripley declared that Mia Yim was the final member of her WarGames team after her big save tonight, and that Dakota Kai didn’t make the cut.

Here’s to hoping this leads to an even bigger redemption arc for Kai.
