The Sin Cara character has been a part of WWE TV for the better part of a decade, but now, the latest man under the mask has asked for his release.

Sin Cara – who under the mask is Jorge Arias, formerly known as Hunico, who permanently replaced the original Sin Cara in 2013 and has been working under that mask ever since – now joins a long, growing list of talents like Luke Harper and Mike Kanellis in publicly asking for his release from the WWE.

Today, mere hours ago, Sin Cara took to Twitter to reveal that last night, after thinking/praying long and hard on his decision, he asked for his WWE release. While he never gave a concrete reason as to why or if he was leaving for greener pastures, he did say he felt as though he was “stuck in a place where I have no value as an athlete.” For all we know, his reason for leaving may be as simple as that, but now, PWInsider is reporting that Cara already knows where he wants to go after leaving WWE. And no, folks, it won’t be AEW.

All Elite Wrestling fans may be bummed to think they likely won’t be seeing their favorite faceless luchador go out and do lucha things with The Lucha Bros, but PWInsider reports that Sin Cara may be leaving wrestling altogether to join MMA.

The PWInsider report from Mike Johnson reads as follows: “The word making the rounds among WWE talents is that Cara, who is close with Alberto el Patron, has interest in going to work for MMA promotion Combates America, which features a number of pro wrestlers.” It is also worth noting that while WWE has not granted his release yet, PWInsider adds that Sin Cara currently has three years left on his contract.
