WWE: 3 potential main events for WrestleMania 36
WWE WrestleMania 36 looms on the horizon as we near the annual Road to WrestleMania, but which matches could main event in Tampa?
This is the most wonderful time of the year to be a professional wrestling fan. WWE Survivor Series had a litany of dream matches. A triple threat match that would have been a pipe dream two years ago between Roderick Strong vs Shinsuke Nakamura vs AJ Styles is one of the many dreams that came true this weekend.
The presence of Survivor Series also brings to mind the Road to WrestleMania, the annual build to WWE’s biggest show of the year.
After Survivor Series begins the push to the Royal Rumble, which brings its own different level of excitement. The winners of the Men’s and Women’s Royal Rumble Matches will then head to WrestleMania to compete for the “World Championship” of their choosing.
If Survivor Series can produce dream match after dream match, one can only imagine the matches we’ll get at WrestleMania 36.
Traditionally, the main event of WrestleMania 36 is for the WWE Championship. Between now and then, there may be changes in who hold those championships.
For now, let’s take a look at three potential main events for WrestleMania 36.
Raw Women’s Championship Match: Becky Lynch (c) vs Charlotte Flair
“If Ronda Rousey wasn’t in the match, I would have beaten you last year at WrestleMania 36.” That line would sell the main event between Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair at WrestleMania 36. Fans will erupt at the idea of the main event for WrestleMania 36 being “The Man” vs “The Queen” for the WWE Women’s Championship.
Since WWE realigned the brands, Lynch has lacked a solid rival on Raw. Lynch was at her best in the buildup to WrestleMania 35, feuding with the best women’s wrestlers in WWE.
Both women have put on career defining matches against each other at Evolution, Hell in a Cell, and countless matches on TV. Their match at Evolution was billed as a Last Woman Standing match, and showed how far both were willing to go to defeat the other.
Becky Lynch has also enjoyed a great deal of success against Flair in previous matches.
They were in the main event of last year’s WrestleMania, but not in a one on one match. Importantly, Lynch did not pin Flair at WrestleMania 35 to become champion. That can be the perfect motivation for The Queen to challenge The Man for a match at WrestleMania 36.
Both wrestlers bring out the best in each other in the ring, and on the microphone. The Man can’t fully become The Man without a great rival.
On the other hand, Lynch as the anti-authority renegade can further enhance Flair’s evil characteristics as “The Queen of WWE”
Charlotte Flair winning the match against Becky Lynch can work, if the story is “The Queen has ascended to her throne, welcome to the reign of Charlotte Flair”. This displays Flair as the evil queen, and opens up a new storyline of Lynch chasing Flair’s championship reign.
