WWE: Alexa Bliss is back, but will she regain the tag titles?
Sheamus made his highly-anticipated return on tonight’s episode of WWE SmackDown, but Alexa Bliss’ return may have stolen the show.
Alexa Bliss is one of the most popular wrestlers in WWE, so when the former Money in the Bank winner was traded to SmackDown after the most recent WWE Draft, wrestling fans were excited to see what she could do on FOX’s new-look Blue Brand.
The Columbus native hasn’t been on television since she and Nikki Cross dropped the Women’s Tag Team Championships to the rising heel team of Kairi Sane and Asuka at Hell in a Cell, but she made her return to TV on the Nov. 29 episode of Friday Night SmackDown on FOX.
And, of course, she returned to a massive pop.
Bliss didn’t just return for herself, though. She came back to help her tag team partner Nikki Cross, who was trying to fend off Sonya Devilla and Mandy Rose – the two halves of the accomplished tag team “Fire and Desire.”
By intervening, Bliss helped Cross gain the upper hand, and the duo hit their tag team DDT finisher on Rose to finish the segment.
WWE fans have loved watching Bliss and Cross together this year, as Cross has become one of the company’s biggest breakout stars since her NXT call-up due to these character-advancing interactions with Bliss. We’ve seen a totally new side to Cross’ character, and it was awesome seeing them win the Women’s Tag Titles together after a culmination of months-long story-telling.
But the story is still being written. Bliss and Cross will have the opportunity to win their titles back against the same opponents who defeated them at Hell in a Cell, as they will take on Sane and Asuka at Starrcade on Sunday.
There’s a good chance Bliss and Cross notch the victory, too. As awesome as Asuka and Sane are and as much as they could still accomplish as champions, Cross and Bliss are big names with excellent chemistry who can become key parts of FOX’s programming. There’s still plenty of mileage left in this storyline between the two of them.
Also, we’ve seen more video of Bliss working with Mike Quackenbush in the Performance Center, which means we’re about to see more layers to Little Miss Bliss’ game for Royal Rumble Season 2020. Another Cross/Bliss run with the tag titles could be fantastic, but defeating Sane and Asuka will be easier said than done, even for these two close friends.
Bliss was out due to an undisclosed injury and was expected to return at Starrcade, but her appearance on SmackDown before Starrcade hypes this title match up even more.
