WWE fans can expect Brock Lesnar to sit out the rest of 2019 and return some time around Royal Rumble season to build to his next title match, but there are already rumors centering on his WrestleMania 36 opponent.

Brock Lesnar has been a part of a marquee match at WWE WrestleMania since retiring The Undertaker at WrestleMania 30. Last year, The Beast Incarnate actually opened the show against Seth Rollins, who stomped his lights out a few times to win the Universal Championship.

Lesnar cashed in the Money in the Bank briefcase, lost the title back to Rollins at SummerSlam, and then beat Kofi Kingston in seconds (I’m still mad about that!) on the debut episode of SmackDown on FOX to claim the WWE Championship.

He’s fully expected to carry the WWE Title into WrestleMania 36 in Tampa, and TalkSPORT’s Alex McCarthy reports there are currently two options for Lesnar. And both involve him facing WWE’s newest crossover stars, who both signed around SmackDown’s move to FOX.

As expected, the first option would be a rivalry match between Cain Velasquez and Lesnar for the WWE Title at WrestleMania, seeing how they both faced off at Crown Jewel. The history there is simple: Velasquez defeated Lesnar in his last UFC Title defense at the beginning of the decade.

However, WWE have their eyes on another opponent for Lesnar in Tyson Fury. If Fury defeats Deontay Wilder for the WBC heavyweight championship in February in their rematch, then McCarthy reports that Vince McMahon may not be able to pass up on a match between Lesnar as the WWE Champion and Fury as a heavyweight champion in boxing.

Next. 3 TLC opponents for the Viking Raiders. dark

Either match would be a spectacle, though wrestling fans would probably prefer Velasquez vs. Lesnar. Not only is there more history there, but if WWE lets him, Velasquez can show the audience just how good his in-ring skills are.

Lesnar vs. Fury and Lesnar vs. Velasquez will have the fabled crossover appeal and could be intriguing matchups for even diehard fans – we all love “car crashes” in a wrestling ring – but hopefully Vince isn’t considering either of these main eventing over, say, Sasha Banks vs. Bayley. (Yes, that is my dream WrestleMania main event for 2020, though The Fiend vs. Roman Reigns seems more likely.)
