WWE: Why Becky Lynch not being on Raw matters

Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch wasn’t on our screens this Monday night, but it seems like WWE has a reason for this glaring omission.

Becky Lynch is the face of WWE Raw. That much has been established since she won the Raw Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 35 this year, and, as my colleague Joe Anthony Myrick wrote, her title reign has been awesome so far.

Despite her brilliance and her importance to weekly WWE television, Becky wasn’t on the show last night. She wrestled for the crowd in Nashville after the show ended, defeating Kairi Sane after Sane teamed up with Asuka to defeat Becky’s tag team partner Charlotte Flair, and then cut a savage promo on WWE for leaving her off the show.

As Becky noted, this was the second straight week she wasn’t on Raw, and she noted that she hasn’t been given a chance to defend her title in two months.

And it bothers her. Check out her promo here. She has one more debt to collect.

Heres a transcription of her promo, courtesy of WrestleZone’s Dominic DeAngelo:

"“It’s been two weeks since I’ve been on RAW and it’s been two months since I defended this. Now, did we think that the powers that were keeping me down in the beginning of all of this had just gone away? I have said the fight that I want and I said that I will fight them in the parking lot if I can’t get it on a PPV. I’m the face of this company but I’m not going to be the mouthpiece cause this title deserves more, I deserve more, the people deserve more. I’ve said the fight that I’ve wanted. I have one last debt to collect.”"

Becky Lynch’s promos are always so real and emotional. No matter how many times I listen to her speak, I’m always struck by the rawness of it all.

Who is she going to collect the debt from? Almost a year ago, Becky lost to Asuka at the Royal Rumble Pay Per View. Since she and Charlotte are feuding with Asuka and Kairi, who are the Women’s Tag Team Champions, perhaps she’s looking for revenge from Asuka to settle the score before another Royal Rumble Season begins.

But more than that, she’s still as much an anti-authority figure as ever. Lynch is indeed the face of the company and knows she should be prominently featured on every show, defending the title she’s so proud of.

Next. Here's why WWE fans connect so well with The Fiend. dark

I do want to share the above insight from Sportskeeda’s ace reporter Tom Colohue.

We are supposed to miss Becky Lynch. This isn’t just a storyline ploy or a way to build to Asuka; it very much is that. But it’s something more. It’s about reminding us how important Becky is to Raw and how much we love watching her every week.

Colohue says Becky will be back next week, and I, for one, can’t wait. The show suffers without her, but when she returns, she’ll back with a vengeance. Kairi and Asuka can count on that.
