One of tonight’s eagerly anticipated scheduled match-ups for WWE NXT was unexpectedly scrapped due to an injury from one of the Superstars.

Last month saw several of the young WWE Superstars on the black and gold brand put in a little bit more extra work than they’re used to committing in a week-to-week time span. In addition to the usual NXT tapings on Wednesday nights and some Performance Center training, a lot of the show’s wrestlers were involved in the NXT Invasion heading into Survivor Series.

Heading in to the PPV, this meant that a lot of NXT stars had to pull triple duty between appearing and/or wrestling on Raw, SmackDown and NXT all in one week for several weeks in a row. 10 days after Survivor Series, it seems as though some Superstars are finally feeling the effects. Namely, Killian Dain and Damian Priest.

Last weekend, both men were involved in a triple threat match featuring Pete Dunne (who eventually won the match) at NXT TakeOver: WarGames. The next night, Priest competed again as a member of Team NXT in the Men’s Elimination Match. Priest was eliminated after suffering an RKO from Randy Orton. Priest was also featured in the NXT invasion angle, most notably on the go-home shows for both Raw and SmackDown.

Dain and Priest were set tonight to compete one-on-one to continue their own feud and pick up where they left off. However, as we have now learned in the latest episode of WWE’s “The Bump” talk show this morning, Damian Priest has not been medically cleared to compete in light of a rib injury. As a result, his match with Dain has been cancelled. A replacement opponent has yet to be announced for Dain.

Currently, it is unclear if Priest’s injury is legitimate or part of a storyline, but given the fact that this match was announced and only cancelled this morning, it’s safe to assume Priest’s injury is real. On behalf of the rest of Daily DDT, we will be wishing Damian Priest a speedy recovery.
