WWE sounds ready to have a much-needed Evolution 2 in 2020
WWE Evolution took place in October 2018 and was the first all-women’s Pay Per View in the company’s history. It was also a rousing success, and fans have been waiting for an Evolution 2.
It was disappointing not to see a follow up to the Evolution Pay Per View, which was the best WWE show of 2018.
The first all-women’s Pay Per View featured an excellent Mae Young Classic finals match between Toni Storm and Io Shirai, another chapter in the Shayna Baszler vs. Kairi Sane story, an underrated main event between Nikki Bella and Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey, and the Match of the Year between Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch in a Last Woman Standing match.
WWE fans were begging for an “Evolution 2” in the second half of 2019, pinpointing the Crown Jewel show in Saudi Arabia as the time of year when a second women’s PPV would happen.
Sadly, it never did.
TalkSport’s Alex McCarthy recently asked Stephanie McMahon about the possibility of an Evolution 2. WWE’s chief brand officer told McCarthy that Evolution 2 never happened because WWE wanted Natalya vs. Lacey Evans in the first women’s match in Saudi Arabia.
McMahon also stated that WWE is “pushing for” Evolution 2 and “hopeful” the announcement will happen, though she didn’t guarantee anything.
Recently on WWE Backstage, Ember Moon made excellent points about the current state of the WWE Women’s Division and made the case for an Evolution 2. The vast majority of WWE fans agreed wholeheartedly with her, as they’ve been waiting for months for a second Evolution PPV.
Definitely give the above clip a watch. Moon’s words are so important.
Between Moon’s speech and McMahon’s comments to McCarthy about the company working on an Evolution 2, it’s safe to say something is in the works. Perhaps Stephanie didn’t want to get our hopes up by saying a show is “imminent”, because they are likely waiting to announce something.
The fan interest is clearly there, the women deserve that platform to showcase their talents to the wrestling world, and the promotion wouldn’t tease an Evolution 2 without concrete plans for a second all-women’s PPV in 2020.
We don’t just want an Evolution 2. We need it.
