In a recent interview, Stephanie McMahon hinted that WWE could “possibly” introduce a new secondary midcard women’s title in the future.

Some of the biggest male Superstars in WWE history first broke out on the roster after winning one of the show’s secondary midcard championships, specifically the Intercontinental Championship. After a successful reign with the IC belt, that Superstar quickly catapulted themselves into the main event picture.

The women’s division never had such a title to fight for. Before the Women’s Tag Team Titles were introduced, women either had to work their way into their brand’s main women’s title picture, or risk getting lost in the shuffle. In light of a new interview, perhaps there is some interest within WWE to introduce such a belt to the women’s division.

WWE’s Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon recently took the time to sit down with Gary Cassidy of Sportskeeda fame, and during the interview, she suggested that perhaps a secondary women’s title could be introduced in the future.

Granted, she did not guarantee it happening. She merely said that it was something that “possibly” could happen, as WWE themselves currently have no plans to introduce such a belt. However, McMahon did admit that “As the women’s division grows, there may be a need for one.”

The idea of a secondary belt for the women to fight for would provide an ample solution for women’s wrestlers who aren’t high enough on the totem pole yet to justify fighting for the main title, or may not have a partner to battle for the Tag Titles.

Women’s feuds without a title, admittedly and unfortunately, do not get nearly as much air time as title feuds. Offering a midcard title for women to fight for could be a blessing in disguise for many women on the roster, especially those lost in the shuffle.
