WWE: Stone Cold Steve Austin sees top star potential in Andrade
Andrade recently lost his winning streak to another rising star in Humberto Carrillo, but there’s no doubting La Sombra’s star potential in WWE.
Ever since his ridiculous match with Johnny Gargano at NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia in early 2018, Andrade has been squarely on the radar of fans as a future superstar in WWE. Of course, Andrade was a big deal in CMLL and NJPW before joining NXT, but he has really come into his own in WWE since teaming up with Zelina Vega as his business associate.
It took some time for Andrade to find his footing on the main roster because of the nature of the beast on Raw and SmackDown, but he has caught a wave of momentum in late 2019. And throughout his time on the main roster, it’s become clear that Andrade has the charisma and in-ring talent to become a major star in the company.
One of the biggest legends in professional wrestling history, in fact, sees massive star potential in Andrade.
In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso, Stone Cold Steve Austin was asked to “identify WWE’s next top star”.
And Stone Cold was full of praise for the former NXT Champion:
"“Right now, the people that are on top are the people that should be on top. But I called this two years ago watching his match when he did the favors for somebody that night, and I said, ‘Man, this Andrade kid is going to be a player one of these days.’ I think he’s proving that.”"
It’s high praise from a man whose word carries a lot weight, as Stone Cold knows a thing or two about climbing the ladder to become a top star in the wrestling business at a high-pressured company.
Stone Cold isn’t the only WWE legend who had kind words for Andrade, as Booker T sent some praise La Sombra’s way on WWE Backstage.
It’s praise that Andrade has undoubtedly earned. He’s been wrestling at a high level for years, so he has the charisma, experience, athleticism, in-ring IQ, presence, and pulse on the fans. Andrade has all the tools to become a megastar in WWE, and it’s only a matter of time before Vince McMahon decides to strap the rocket – or the Money in the Bank briefcase – on a sure thing. Because Andrade is a sure thing.
