This week’s Wednesday Night War focuses on Rhea Ripley’s big win, AEW Champion Chris Jericho vs. Jungle Boy, and the return of “Johnny Wrestling.”

This past Wednesday marked the final week of head-to-head competition between All Elite Wrestling (AEW): Dynamite and NXT in 2019, so it’s only fitting to cap things off with a look at the three (or more) wrestlers who stood out on both shows one last time this year. But first, here are some honorable mentions:

Kris Statlander: Statlander impressed once again on this past Wednesday’s Dynamite, pinning Britt Baker to become number one contender to Riho’s AEW Women’s Championship. Between her outlandish-but-delightful gimmick and her strong ring work, she has quickly become a star in the women’s division. Hopefully, her impending feud with The Nightmare Collective won’t slow her momentum.

Pete Dunne: A clean win over Travis Banks in a very good match is nice, but hopefully, the former WWE United Kingdom Champion will have more of a direction in 2020.

Damian Priest: Priest played the de-facto babyface role in his match with Killian Dain and he filled the spot nicely. Dain spent most of the match working over Priest’s injured midsection, and the crowd responded well to the latter’s subsequent comeback. It’s probably a short term thing, but for this match, it worked out well.

Io Shirai: Given what else happened on this past Wednesday’s NXT, it’s safe to assume Shirai will get another NXT Women’s Championship match in the near future. If that’s the case, having her beat Santana Garrett clean was the logical first step in keeping her strong when her time comes.
