Chris Jericho and Jungle Boy

You know, it would be easy to dedicate a slide to Jericho every week, but finding unique ways to praise Jericho would become a bit cumbersome, so I chose to save his appearances in this space for matches or segments that stood out beyond his high expectations.

His 10-minute challenge with Jungle Boy this past Wednesday on Dynamite would qualify as one of those occasions.

Jungle Boy, who has yet to win a match in AEW, gave the AEW Champion his best shot before Jericho turned the tables, with the announcers framing it as Jericho weathering the early storm.

Eventually, “Le Champion” locked in The Walls of Jericho, but Jungle Boy – ever the resilient babyface – endured the pain long enough to reach the time limit without tapping out to Jericho’s version of the Boston Crab.

Jericho, the petulant heel that he is, responded with a temper tantrum before bullying Justin Roberts into giving him five more minutes with Jungle Boy, which ended with Jungle Boy scoring a few more near falls before Jericho walked up the ramp to spare himself more embarrassment.

This was about as perfect a pro wrestling segment as you’re gonna find. Jungle Boy obviously gets the rub from not only hanging with the champion, but also coming close to beating him on several occasions.

Conversely, Jericho loses nothing since he had Jungle Boy beat before the clock expired (kudos to Jericho for also pretending like he didn’t say that Jungle Boy couldn’t last 10 minutes with him in his post-match interview with Tony Schiavone). Everyone involved benefited from this, hence why it was so fantastic.
