A loss could stall Asuka’s momentum

While I’ve always been one of the few who felt like Asuka’s streak ended at the right time and to the right person at WrestleMania 34, I’d be remiss to say that losing her undefeated streak didn’t stall Asuka’s momentum.

It was not so much the loss itself that hurt Asuka, but how she was booked afterwards and how quickly she became lost in the shuffle is what hurt her. The same can be said in her booking after losing the SmackDown Women’s Championship to Charlotte Flair two weeks before WrestleMania 35.

It has taken several months for WWE to book the former NXT Women’s Champion back where she belongs – the main event picture – and if her first shot at a main Women’s Championship in about a year ends in her defeated once again, what’s next for Asuka?

Back to the tag team division? We’ve seen something similar with Kofi Kingston this year after losing the WWE Championship and we saw how much fans weren’t happy about that. Expect the same reaction if Asuka loses at WWE Royal Rumble 2020. Also expect the same kind of stalled booking that hurt her last year after she lost the big one when it mattered most.

All of that can be avoided if Asuka just beats Becky Lynch instead and continues to dominate the women’s division on her way to a marquee match at WrestleMania.
