WWE Rumors: 2 more planned title matches for Royal Rumble 2020
Becky Lynch vs. Asuka has already been announced for WWE Royal Rumble 2020, and here are two more rumored title matches for the first Pay Per View of the new year.
Last year, Becky Lynch and Asuka put on an instant classic at the Royal Rumble, and they are poised to do the same at WWE Royal Rumble 2020 but for the Raw Women’s Championship this time. In 2019, they fought over the SmackDown Women’s Title.
On Jan. 26 next year at the Rumble in Houston, the SmackDown Women’s Championship match is expected to be between current champ Bayley and recently-turned babyface Lacey Evans. At least, that’s what the Wrestling Observer News’ Dave Meltzer is reporting, via WrestlingInc.com’s Marc Middleton.
Sasha Banks and Evans recently went at it again in the ring, with Banks taunting Evans’ daughter at ringside to absorb more heat. But the end goal is expected to be a Big 5 PPV match between Evans and Bayley, who were originally scheduled for a match at the TLC PPV. But WWE axed the match to give it more build and a different platform at the Rumble.
A SmackDown Women’s Championship match between Bayley and Evans won’t receive as much hype as Asuka vs. Becky, but it could be a real sleeper on that Rumble card. Both women go all out when they are in the ring and will have plenty to prove on a loaded card.
Meltzer is also reporting that Shinsuke Nakamura is expected to defend the Intercontinental Championship against Braun Strowman at the Rumble PPV.
Like Evans vs. Bayley, Shinsuke vs. Braun was rescheduled from TLC to the Rumble. But in this case, the change occurred because of an injury to Strowman.
The two SmackDown stars have resumed their program now that Strowman is healthy, and this will be an intriguing pairing. Sami Zayn brings an especially interesting dynamic here, as Nakamura’s manager once had an emotional rivalry with Strowman at the end of 2016 when he was a babyface.
