WWE: 5 breakout stars for 2020
WWE superstars Rhea Ripley and Keith Lee made massive waves on NXT at the end of 2019, but which wrestlers could emerge as breakout stars in 2020?
Rhea Ripley and Keith Lee were the biggest stars of Survivor Series weekend, as NXT unequivocally established itself as a third brand equal to Raw and SmackDown in WWE canon by defeating both brands. Lee was one of the last three men standing in the men’s elimination match, while Ripley was the star of the show in the NXT women’s victory that night.
Known as “The Nightmare”, Ripley was also the star of the show on the previous night’s TakeOver, winning WarGames for her team. She would then finish the year as NXT Women’s Champion, taking the title off Shayna Baszler in one of the most emotional title wins of 2019.
But who will be the biggest breakout stars in 2020? Here are just five wrestlers who could become household names by the time December 2020 rolls around.
Liv Morgan
The former Riott Squad member is line for a gimmick change, and I have a feeling her vignettes are a swerve from her true character. But no matter who she portrays, Liv Morgan will be a star. She was often the highlight of six-women tag matches on Raw with the Riott Squad, throwing her body around with reckless abandon and showing the type of toughness cultivated while wrestling with her brothers in the backyard.
Morgan is a tremendous athlete who has the commitment to sink her teeth into any character. Remember how she got a blue tongue over? Morgan has style, a keen eye for what clicks, and an exciting move-set in the ring. 2020 could be the year she really makes waves as a single star after flashing her potential in 2019 despite not being on television much.
