With 2019 coming to a close, it is time to look at back at the very few smart booking decisions the WWE has made in the past 12 months. The following will discern and elucidate the five best booking decisions of 2019.

As most of the WWE Universe is well aware of, WWE makes many cringeworthy booking decisions. Quite frankly, there are too many to count, but five decisions really sliced the pie:

(1) Wild Card Rule. This rule clearly made the brand split look meaningless and threw the entire roster and all of the main roster feuds into disarray.

(2) Kofi Kingston losing the WWE Championship to Brock Lesnar in eight seconds. Considering how prestigious and meaningful his title reign was, this was clearly an unjustifiable way to end it.

(3) Hell in a Cell Match Stoppage for the Universal Championship between Seth Rollins and Bray Wyatt. Hell in a Cell matches should always end conclusively and a DQ finish is intolerable.

(4) Infidelity storyline between Rusev and Lana. Although the storytelling was consistent, the morals behind this storyline made Raw difficult to watch every Monday Night.

(5) Last minute PPV match announcements on WWE Now. While this is okay if done for Kickoff matches, it’s not okay for main show matches that should be built incrementally the weeks before the PPV. The so-called business strategy of gaining more WWE Network subscribers by announcing almost every match on the PPV card on the day of is just absurd.

Thanks to these terrible booking decisions, it is quite facile to pinpoint the smart booking decisions.

Nonetheless, those very few smart booking decisions were worth waiting for because they dropped jaws and inspired hearts. Before we get to those five smart booking decisions, let’s give a brief shout out to Seth Rollins’ incredible heel turn with Akam and Rezar from the Authors of Pain.

Honorable Mention: Pairing Seth Rollins with AOP

This new heel faction has completely changed the landscape of Monday Night Raw. Although The Shield is irreplaceable, they surely do look like the new Shield. As can be indicated by their recent actions, the future is bright for these three superstars.

They gave the WWE Universe just a taste of what they are made of and 2020 will be theirs if they keep it up. They targeted Kevin Owens, Rey Mysterio, and Samoa Joe thus far. It’s only a matter of time until the entire Raw locker room fears their wrath.

With that being said, let’s delve into those five best booking decisions of 2019.
