Bobby Lashley vs. Brock Lesnar is one of the last few dream matches left in WWE for The Beast Incarnate, and The Dominator wants the company to give him a chance to face the current WWE Champion in 2020.

Both Bobby Lashley and Brock Lesnar will be in the headlines in January. While Lesnar is prepared to reappear on the Jan. 6 episode of Raw for his seemingly annual spiel as the part-time champion holding the title into WrestleMania, Lashley has been part of a controversial love quadrilateral with Lana, Rusev, and now Liv Morgan.

It has been a, um, strange month for Lashley as a part of this angle with Rusev and Lana, which Vince McMahon and Paul Heyman have designed for the sole purpose of drawing attention, whether good or bad. (Because to them, negative attention does not exist in the context of an entertainment product.)

What wrestling fans truly want to see Lashley do, though, is dominate. Lashley was once a huge star for Impact Wrestling in between stints with WWE, and he has an impressive MMA record with Bellator. And you know who else has experience being a top star in amateur wrestling, pro wrestling, and MMA like Lashley?

Brock Lesnar.

In 2018, there were rumors of a possible SummerSlam match between Lesnar and Lashley for the Universal Championship. If you can believe it, Lashley and Lesnar have still never locked horns in a WWE ring despite the obvious comparisons and interest in the match. That year, Lesnar ended up passing the torch to Roman Reigns, who finally exacted revenge on his WrestleMania 34 foe.

Lashley believes 2020 will be the year he can push for a dream match with Lesnar, which would undoubtedly remind WWE fans how great Lashley can be in a major in-ring program.

And as discomforting as his current storyline has been to many, Lashley notes that he could use this momentum to push for a dream match with The Beast.

Here’s what he told Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso:

"“Absolutely, that’s the reason why I came back. After being gone for 11 years, a lot of the new crowd hadn’t seen me in WWE. Right now, in such a big role, it’s going to put more eyes on me.2020 is the year to make a run for that big match. People have been talking about how me and Brock would be amazing, and there have been all kinds of different comparisons. If people want to hate me and put me as a heel against Brock, I’m 100% down for it. But at the same token, I think there is an opportunity for people to see what I’m doing with Lana and like it, and want to see me go after Brock. Regardless of anything else, that needs to happen.”"

Although Lashley is currently a major heel as Lana’s lover in this angle with Rusev and Liv, it’s hard to see wrestling fans booing Lashley in a feud with Lesnar. He’s never won the WWE Championship, first of all, and, secondly, who the hell is going to cheer Lesnar?

Lashley vs. Lesnar could blow the roof off any arena at any show, and it could be a tremendous match at SummerSlam. It would certainly be a more natural showcase of Lashley’s gifts as a fighter, wrestler, and straightforward talker than this convoluted cheating storyline, and it could put Lashley on the map as a babyface in WWE’s main event picture.
