Over the past month, we saw vignettes played teasing Sheamus’ return to WWE SmackDown with a throwback look. And he started the New Year by marking his return with a Brogue Kick for Shorty G.

Before WWE SmackDown aired on Jan. 3, Shorty G and The Revival got into a little backstage argument wherein Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder made some short jokes at the former Chad Gable’s expense.

This led to a match on SmackDown, and Shorty G picked up a convincing win over Wilder, tapping him out with his Ankle Lock. As Shorty G celebrated, Dawson, who was on commentary cheering on his tag team partner, attacked the former King of the Ring finalist from behind.

Just then Sheamus’ music hit. While it may have seemed like The Celtic Warrior was there to make the save for Shorty G and even the odds against the heel tag team, he, of course, had other plans.

Sporting a hairstyle similar to his run from a few years ago, he returned in the same fashion.

By Brogue Kicking the smaller opponent.

It IS great to see the Brogue Kick back in WWE.

Sheamus looks set to be one of the top heels on the brand, and he seems to have an issue with everyone. Look for The Celtic Warrior to begin with a feud against Shorty G that should help both get men over, though Sheamus will likely make quick work of the babyface before moving on to bigger things in 2020.

Fans have been excited to see Sheamus’ return over the past several weeks, as he’s built up more favor with them over the past couple of years. Sheamus’ tag team run with Cesaro as The Bar was incredible and showcased the absolute best from him in the ring.

Hopefully, he’ll have plenty of success on SmackDown in his singles run, and he’s become a man to watch on the Blue Brand going into the Royal Rumble, which takes place on Jan. 26 in Houston.

For now, let’s see how Shorty G responds to Sheamus, who will soon carry a threat to the entire SmackDown roster.

Again, it’s great to see him back and healthy.
