Will Ospreay and Hiromu Takahashi had one of the best matches of NJPW’s double header in the Tokyo Dome. Both men fought over the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship in an absolutely insane match.

Hiromu Takahashi was able to walk out with the title after his return from horrifying neck injury over a year ago. According to PWInsider, Will Ospreay was reportedly hurt during the match while hitting a Sasuke Special to the floor. Ospreay went for the move, missing it the first time and landing on his feet, only to be caught by Hiromu who went for a German suplex.

Ospreay landed on his feet on the ramp and then charged at Hiromu, who tried to belly-to-belly Ospreay into the apron, but Ospreay slipped into the ring and hit the ropes before hitting a Sasuke Special again.

Ospreay apparently received an ankle injury here, possibly breaking his heel. Ospreay not only continued the match, but wrestled as if nothing was wrong for the rest of it, which is quite amazing given the level that he worked at with Takahashi.

While the story leading into the match was the miraculous return of Hiromu Takahashi, not only to the ring, but returning without losing a step, stole the show, the story afterwards of Ospreay working with a potentially broken heel is even more amazing. Both men gave it their all and left it all in the ring in the first of 3 main events in the Tokyo Dome that night.

Hiromu Takahashi is going on to team with Ryu Lee (formerly Dragon Lee) to face Jyushin Thunder Liger in a tag match that will be Liger’s last match. Liger will have a full retirement ceremony tomorrow at New Year Dash, where the legendary wrestler’s career ends.

It is yet to be known if Ospreay will compete tonight or at New Year Dash, but as a I can, I can’t help but think he should take the time needed to heal. He deserves it after the match he gave us last night.
