Rey Mysterio has been locked in a bitter feud with Andrade for the United States Championship on WWE Raw, but could this all lead to him retiring at WrestleMania 36?

Few wrestlers have reached the legendary status of Rey Mysterio, who has accomplished nearly every feat imaginable in WWE. An inspiration to many, Mysterio is a three-time world champion and former Royal Rumble winner in the company, in addition to many other incredible feats.

Mysterio was recently the United States Champion for the second time in his career, too, before dropping the title to rival Andrade at the Madison Square Garden house show in December. Since then, Mysterio and Andrade have remained rivals and continue to put on instant classics against each other.

Recently, Andrade ripped off Mysterio’s mask on Raw, and there have been fan whispers of a possible storyline involving his mask this WrestleMania season. In a recent Dropkick DiSKussions segment with Korey Gunz, Sportskeeda’s Tom Colohue reported that the usage of the mask as part of a recent Raw angle could be “leading towards” a “retirement angle” at WrestleMania 36.

Colohue, via Sportskeeda’s Lennard Surrao, is “hearing” that WrestleMania 36 could be Mysterio’s “last hurrah” in wrestling. But Colohue also adds that Mysterio may want to wrestle with his son Dominick before retiring. His son played an important role in Mysterio’s WWE Title feud with Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series as the Blue Brand’s first major title feud.

It will be sad to see Mysterio go out if it happens at WrestleMania 36. He returned to a major pop at the 2018 Royal Rumble for his second stint with WWE and hasn’t lost a step despite being 45 with a history of knee injuries. His matches with Andrade, in particular, have shown that Mysterio is still one of the best in the world.

But while Mysterio has something left in the tank, he may want to retire on top. It would be sweet to see him going out with Dominick by his side, putting over Andrade as one of the next big stars in WWE.

There’s still plenty of time between now and WrestleMania, and this is all mostly speculative. But it’s still interesting to see that there’s retirement buzz on Mysterio heading into ‘Mania season.
