WWE Rumors: The Undertaker ‘very unlikely’ for WrestleMania 36
The Undertaker defeated John Cena at WrestleMania 34, but fans shouldn’t expect him at WWE’s biggest show of the year for the second straight ‘Mania.
It has been more than two years since The Undertaker last appeared at WWE WrestleMania, as The Phenom defeated John Cena in New Orleans in an unannounced match. (Though, to be fair, Cena had been begging to face Taker for weeks on Raw.)
When he has time to prepare, The Undertaker, now 54, can put on a good match, especially when he’s in the ring with a capable wrestler. His last match, which occurred in Saudi Arabia last summer against Goldberg, was a disaster, but Goldberg wasn’t exactly the right opponent for him.
Fans have been wondering if The Undertaker could face “the right opponent” at WrestleMania 36 for one more big showing on The Grandest Stage of Them All, but it sounds like nobody should get their hopes up.
Sportskeeda’s Tom Colohue reports that Taker is “very unlikely” to wrestle at this year’s ‘Mania, since he’s expected to be at WWE’s upcoming show in Saudi Arabia again in February.
Per Colohue, Taker has to “peak” for his matches now that he’s older, rigorously training consistently for months before he’s able to perform. He understandably wants to be at his absolute best in order to deliver in the ring, and he still can do so, provided he has this time to properly prepare.
So if he wrestles in February in Saudi Arabia, it’s cutting it too close for him to appear in Tampa in April for WrestleMania 36. And per Colohue, that means Taker is “probably” wrestling in Saudi Arabia again for his next match in 2020, since WWE usually runs multiple shows in the country per year.
The Undertaker is cashing in major checks from his matches in Saudi Arabia, so his wallet will benefit from wrestling in February over April at ‘Mania. But for the fans, it’s not quite the same.
