Because we all loved Cain Velasquez vs. Brock Lesnar the first time it happened in a wrestling ring, WWE has a rematch slotted for WrestleMania 36.

As many fans may have seen on the internet by now, Cain Velasquez revealed that he will participate in WWE’s Men’s Royal Rumble match taking place later this month. At least, he thinks he is.

“I think I’m doing it … I think so,” he clarified confusingly to The Sun. The internet was just as perplexed by the former UFC fighter’s answer as he seemed to be himself. Either he genuinely does not know if he ought to make a trip to Minute Maid Park on Jan. 26, or maybe he is just playing coy with reporters and fans to keep us all guessing.

Judging by a recent report by the always reliable Tom Colohue in the latest in his series of WWE news videos, the latter may be to believed.

After the first minute or so of the video, the journalist says that he learned from close sources that it is not only WWE’s plan for Velasquez to enter the Royal Rumble for an encounter with Brock Lesnar, but Velasquez is currently WWE’s “ideal challenger” for Lesnar at WrestleMania 36.

As far as wrestling matches go, if this comes to pass, this will be the second in-ring contest between Lesnar and Velasquez. The first time around, Lesnar tapped out Velasquez in under three minutes at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia.

As Colohue continues, professional boxer Tyson Fury was also an option on the table for Lesnar’s WrestleMania opponent, but WWE don’t believe Fury is ready for such a big in-ring spotlight yet whereas they think Velasquez just might be.

We’ll have to wait and see how this all plays out, but for now, if there’s one thing we can bet on, it’s that whoever eliminates Brock Lesnar from the Royal Rumble later this month is most likely to challenge for his WWE Championship on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
