WWE Hall of Famer and NXT champion to be in Women’s Royal Rumble?

There’s still plenty of entries open for the Women’s Rumble this Sunday and, apparently, we may see a WWE Hall of Famer and an NXT champion take those spots.

The Royal Rumble is this Sunday and while several male WWE Superstars have already declared their spots for the Men’s Rumble, only five women have declared for the Women’s Rumble.

According to Tom Colohue (best known for his work at Sportskeeda and, well, this very site) in his latest report video over on YouTube, this is a deliberate choice on behalf of WWE. The lack of Rumble entrant reveals on the women’s side is both to differentiate it from the stacked Men’s Rumble announcements and also to leave the door open for several surprise entrants.

Currently, with a handful of women injured on both Raw and SmackDown, there simply is not enough women to fill all 30 spots between those brands alone. Which means we should expect many NXT Superstars to make their presence known during the match. Not only NXT stars, but legends from the past are expected as well.

Colohue points out that among the names he has been told could make appearances are Kay Lee Ray and Beth Phoenix.

Kay Lee Ray is the current NXT UK Women’s Champion having held the title since defeating Toni Storm for the belt last August at NXT UK TakeOver: Cardiff. More recently, she was on Team Baszler for WarGames last November and a couple weeks ago retained her belt against Storm and Piper Niven in a Triple Threat at TakeOver: Blackpool II.

KLR is expected to be in Texas this weekend anyway for the NXT vs. NXT UK event, Worlds Collide, on Saturday. It’d be apropos for her to show up on Sunday at the Minute Maid Park arena for the PPV as well.

Beth Phoenix, meanwhile, has served as NXT’s commentator and so she could easily bounce from the booth to the ring at a moment’s notice during the Women’s Rumble.

Next. CM Punk has a tremendous pick for the Men’s Royal Rumble winner. dark

Would you like to see either Phoenix or KLR win the Women’s Rumble this Sunday?
