WWE fans expected Shayna Baszler to win the 2020 Royal Rumble and face Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 36. While Charlotte Flair eliminated Shayna to punch her ticket to the Show of Shows, it looks like Lynch vs. Baszler will still happen.
The seeds for a WWE WrestleMania title match between Becky Lynch and Shayna Baszler were planted on the road to Survivor Series. Bayley, Baszler, and Lynch were involved in a Triple Threat main event at the Big 5 Pay Per View, with the build to the match being a major highlight – particularly the war of words between Lynch and Baszler leading up to the event.
Therefore, some fans – but not all fans, of course – have been buzzing for a potential Raw Women’s Championship match between Lynch and “The Queen of Spades” at WrestleMania.
It seemed like Baszler winning the Royal Rumble was the best way to get there, but the match could still happen despite Charlotte Flair winning the match.
Lynch had a fantastic Raw Women’s Title defense against Asuka at the Royal Rumble PPV, proving she has what it takes to defeat The Empress. It would make a ton of sense for Baszler to be her next roadblock, but it’s anyone’s guess as to who wins. Lynch should be the favorite, but Baszler was a dominant two-time champion in NXT.
Speculation about Ronda Rousey will undoubtedly continue, especially if some fans believe WWE is trying to keep her inclusion at WrestleMania a secret. Lynch pinned Rousey in the main event of WrestleMania 35 for a heroic double-title win, but they have yet to face each other in singles competition.
Baszler vs. Lynch, however, is the safe bet for WrestleMania 36 and a definite dream match between two of WWE’s best story-tellers. The promos themselves will be incredible.
