Velveteen Dream returned to WWE NXT recently, making his presence felt to the entire WWE universe when he attacked The Undisputed Era.

Although Dream beats up the Undisputed Era as a way to let Roderick Strong know that he is out for blood, Dream should be focusing his attention on earning his North American title back from the current champion, the limitless Keith Lee.

Undoubtedly, the revenge that Velveteen Dream is seeking against Roderick Strong and the Undisputed Era is completely justifiable since Strong defeated Velveteen, thanks to outside assistance from Kyle O’Reilly and Adam Cole, for the championship back in September 2019.

This controversial victory explains why Dream returned with a vengeance against Roderick Strong, even bringing Strong’s real-life wife, Marina, and their son into the feud. During this past week’s episode of WWE NXT, Dream was again seen wearing an image of Shafir, her son and Dream himself in a sort of family style portrait on his wrestling gear.

Since Dream made this feud so personal by bringing Roderick Strong’s family into the mix, the two men are scheduled to face off tomorrow on NXT.

Nonetheless, now is as good a time as any for Velveteen Dream to focus on the overarching picture here, which is obtaining the NXT North American Championship for the second time, possibly at NXT TakeOver: Tampa.

Although Dominik Dijakovic will be Keith Lee’s next opponent, if Velveteen Dream can play his cards right, he can be next in line for a shot at the NXT North American Championship potentially at NXT TakeOver: Tampa

Dream should be strategic and wait for a one on one opportunity against Lee, as this will provide him with the biggest odds of beating Keith Lee.

Velveteen actually holds the record for the longest reign as NXT North American Champion at 209 days. As champion, Dream defended his North American title with poise and retained this title against many wrestlers, including Johnny Gargano, Roderick Strong, and Matt Riddle.

Unfortunately, this reign was cut short due to the sneaky tactics of the Undisputed Era (and partly from what seemed like a serious back injury for Velveteen Dream), even though this reign was also filled with outstanding and captivating performances and several monumental title defenses.

Furthermore, watching Velveteen Dream versus Keith Lee face off for the NXT North American Championship at NXT TakeOver: Tampa, would be a refreshing match to see. There is no need to relive old storylines between Dream and Strong or even Lee and Dijakovic for that matter.

This is the ideal moment for Dream to step his game up, refocus his energy on Keith Lee,  and earn back his NXT North American Championship.

It’s important to mention that since NXT is the newest brand of WWE, WWE has the opportunity to create a more wholesome history for the brand. One that is inclusive of all races, instead of having yet another history book filled with predominantly white men and women with the occasional spec of color.

Developing a vehement feud between two prominent black men like Velveteen Dream and Keith Lee for the North American Championship would surely be a crowd-pleaser, and make for a sublime change of scenery in the history of the WWE.

Allowing these two superstars to battle it out for the NXT North American Championship is a  perfect way to show the WWE Universe that having people of color as the star of the show is no longer an anachronism like it has been in the past.

Continuing on the topic of history, allowing Velveteen Dream to regain his title from Keith Lee would also allow Dream to be the first man in WWE NXT history to hold the title two times.

Seeing Velveteen Dream and the current NXT North American Champion, Keith Lee battle it our at NXT TakeOver: Tampa would be a great way to kick off WrestleMania weekend.

On top of being an epic matchup, both Dream and Lee have a massive fan following, which will likely increase the stock of NXT and viewer views for the show. This increase is thanks to the fans who love Velveteen’s Prince-inspired persona, and the fans who wish to bask in the glory of Keith Lee as these fans will tune in to watch this enticing rivalry unfold between these two dynamic competitors.

Dream and Lee’s different wrestling dynamics can be seen in their fighting styles which only further emphasizes the need for a rivalry between the two to begin.

Dream’s fighting style is nothing short of punishing  and he promises to provide any opponent that he faces with the Velveteen Dream Experience. While Velveteen provides the crowd with a flamboyant and sometimes egotistical presence, the current NXT North American champion Keith Lee gives off a very calm and collected character.

Keith Lee also has a mind-blowing in-ring wrestling style, as he has the agility and speed of a cruiserweight although he weighs in at over 300 pounds! Lee is truly limitless, and his wrestling style proves this, which makes a match between Velveteen Dream and Keith Lee even more worth wild.

Consequently, the controversial fashion in which Velveteen lost the title is certainly justification for a title match opportunity. Allowing this match to happen at NXT TakeOver: Tampa can bode well for man’s career.

It’s time for Velveteen Dream to step back into the spotlight and issue a challenge to the current NXT North American Championship, Keith Lee for an opportunity at the title.

Whether this challenge is issued to Keith Lee now or later, Dream must be sure that he is ready to face Lee and win back the title. Perhaps an ephemeral and victorious feud against Roderick Strong will help prepare Velveteen for the challenge that lies in wait with Keith Lee.
