WWE Raw: Randy Orton is totally going to attack Christian, right?
WWE Raw is hinting at Randy Orton targeting another superstar on the roster, but what if he decides to go after another wrestler from Edge’s past?
Randy Orton and Edge briefly reunited in the ring during the 2020 Men’s Royal Rumble match after The Rated R Superstar made his shocking return to a WWE ring. The alliance between “Rated RKO” was brief, however, as Edge turned on The Viper before his former tag team partner could do the honors (as Orton is known to do).
While Orton already attacked Edge, he saved his most heinous assaults for Matt Hardy, who was written off television after suffering a monumental beatdown at the hands of WWE’s so-called “Apex Predator”.
We haven’t seen Edge on our screens since the post-Rumble episode of WWE Raw, as Orton attacked Edge on the night the latter made his first big promo to the WWE Universe.
But Orton could coax Edge to make a return earlier than he wants to by attacking his close friend Christian, who could fulfill his gimmick by having “one more match” in 2020. Even if he doesn’t have an actual match, Christian could return to Raw this Monday in search for answers from Orton, only to find himself on the receiving end of another assault from WWE’s resident sadist not named “Bray Wyatt”.
WWE, for what it’s worth, is advertising Orton targeting another superstar after sending Matt Hardy to the hospital twice. While Orton could, in theory, get more heat by beating down a full-time babyface like Humberto Carrillo or Cedric Alexander, WWE seem to be angling for people who can help build towards the Orton vs. Edge match at WrestleMania 36 that is fully expected to be Edge’s first match back in the ring. And it’s a WrestleMania-worthy match indeed.
Hardy and Edge share a past – let’s just leave it at that – but Christian and Edge are an inseparable duo. If Orton lays his hands on Christian, then Edge will see that as a personal attack on him. And that’s a move from Orton that may fully cross the line, leading Edge to a “point of no return” situation that accelerates the build to a match at WrestleMania.
Christian is a fan favorite, and those in attendance at Raw would absolutely love to see him back. He’s been working with FS1’s “WWE Backstage” since SmackDown’s move to FOX and has, as expected, done more excellent work as a commentator. But fans are itching for a little something more; a spot that helps Edge’s WrestleMania feud would do wonders.
The Feb. 24 episode of Raw emanates from Bell MTS Place, which is the home of the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets. Since the show will take place in Canada, that should only fuel the speculation that Orton will attack Christian to get Edge even more invested in this budding WrestleMania rivalry.
