WWE WrestleMania 36: 5 possible matches for Bayley
Sasha Banks
Before the Royal Rumble Pay Per View, Sasha Banks vs. Bayley looked like a near-lock for WWE WrestleMania 36. But Banks had to miss several weeks due to an injury, only returning to help Bayley beat up Super ShowDown opponent Naomi on the Feb. 28 episode of Friday Night SmackDown in Sasha’s hometown of Boston.
You know what else is happening at the TD Garden in Boston this year that’s wrestling related? SummerSlam 2020.
In years past, fans have speculated about Banks and Bayley facing off at the Barclays Center at SummerSlam as a callback to their amazing TakeOver: Brooklyn match that started it all, but how about a match in Sasha’s hometown over the same weekend? Hometowns have played a key role in story-telling for both Sasha and Bayley, as Banks once had a Hell in a Cell main event in Boston and Bayley won her first SmackDown title in San Jose.
However, SummerSlam is an awfully long time to wait, and WWE could have a match at WrestleMania that leads to an all-out feud over the summer. There would probably be a brief pause in the middle – perhaps Bayley takes some time off as a break – in order for it to last that long, but then the issue would be having a main feud last for too long at the expense of others.
It could be now or never for a WrestleMania match between Banks and Bayley, and they have enough history that there shouldn’t be an issue mobilizing both incredible fan bases for a dream match in Tampa. Don’t rule out Banks and Bayley still being the match at the Show of Shows.
