As The Revival, Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder have been one of the world’s best tag teams, and they’ll finally be able to showcase their full abilities again outside WWE.

When they were in NXT, The Revival didn’t just establish themselves as one of WWE‘s best tag teams, but they were legitimately in the discussion as the best tag team in the world when purely looking at their in-ring work.

However, after leaving NXT, Vince McMahon and WWE consistently failed to showcase their talents, and their booking was downright insulting. And it gotten even worse once Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder made it clear that they had interest in potentially leaving so that they would get an opportunity to showcase their skills.

At long last, WWE have finally come to terms with the release of both wrestlers, mercifully ending what has been incredibly unfair mistreatment of two independent contractors.

The Revival, WWE contract saga has gone on for at least a year, but it took an even uglier turn in 2020. Fightful.com’s Sean Ross Sapp exclusively reported that WWE not only stopped booking the duo, but they may have even stopped paying them at all after their downside guarantees were hit. Yes, this was all happening during a pandemic.

Thankfully, Dawson and Wilder are out. We saw how Vince McMahon did everything he could to keep Brodie Lee under contract unfairly with no intent of using him, solely to keep Lee away from competitors.

And now, Lee is blossoming in All Elite Wrestling, somewhat spoofing Vince with his character (though it’s a little bit more nuanced than that.)

The Revival have been linked with AEW ever since rumors spread of their potential departure from WWE, and they are now free to either sign with the promotion or head elsewhere. It’s unclear if promotions have the funds to sign anyone at this moment in time, but if anyone can, then it’s AEW. They recently officially added Anna Jay to the women’s division.

However, AEW have already taped a library of content over the coming weeks in order to obey the shutdown order and finally suspend in-person tapings in the near future.

The future for The Revival is unclear, but that’s better than being trapped. They reportedly weren’t getting paid by WWE anyway, so there doesn’t seem to be any lost income by this release. WWE weren’t booking them, and while they seem intent on running shows, none of that would have impacted Dawson and Wilder.

So they are free, and AEW are their primary option with their focus on tag team wrestling and potential rivalry with The Elite. Based on a recent tweet from Dawson, The Top Guys saw this release coming soon, and we can now speculate away about dream matches and feuds for two of the finest tag team wrestlers of this generation.
